Yamaha is the first manufacturer in the world to officially introduce an airbag in a scooter. And this is not just any scooter, but one of the most unique scooters you can buy. It is the Yamaha Tricity 300, and as the name suggests, it is a three-wheeled scooter. However, the highlight here is the airbag system, which has been a fruitful development in the Yamaha and Autoliv collaboration.

Autoliv is an automotive safety system supplier that is responsible for making airbag systems, seatbelts and much more. The Piaggio group also worked in collaboration with Autoliv, but the product has yet to be revealed. Nevertheless, the new Yamaha Tricity 300 will likely be known as the safest scooter in the world, thanks to the new airbag system. Yamaha has yet to reveal the pricing of this scooter. But how does it work? Let’s find out!

In the scooter, the airbag has been installed in the front apron, and Autoliv claims that the whole system has been installed with practicality in mind. The balance of the vehicle, along with the storage bins and spaces, has not been compromised to accommodate the airbag. This new safety feature has gone through testing, including a proper crash test, and has succeeded. “This collaboration represents a key development beyond our core business.

It contributes to our future growth, and it is an important step in delivering on our long-term strategic agenda. It also marks a significant advancement in safeguarding motorcyclists, who traditionally have far less protection than occupants in light vehicles,” said Mikael Bratt, President and CEO, Autoliv. That said, this could be a very useful feature, especially for two-wheelers, considering there is little to know about safety nets. Implementing this in different scooters and motorcycles could help improve the safety of riders.
