New Affordable Japanese 7-seater Launched
The Japanese automaker that we are talking about is Nissan. It has recently launched India’s cheapest 7-seater – the Gravite. The Gravite is intended to be an affordable and practical solution for bigger families. And to add to the convenience factor, Nissan is now looking to copy Tata’s success mantra, the dual-cylinder CNG technology.

Tata has offered a dual-cylinder layout in its cars for quite some time, and now you can get a similar configuration with the Gravite. You would expect this to mean you get a practical boot, but you would be slightly mistaken.

Dual-Cylinder CNG?

During the launch event, Nissan displayed the CNG variant, which will be launched in the near future. As seen, the twin layout is quite unique. With Hyundai and Tata, the cylinders are placed horizontally beside each other. But in the Gravite, the 2nd cylinder is stacked on top of the first cylinder due to the minimal boot space. Its French sibling, the Renault Triber, features a single-cylinder layout, which deeply hinders the already poor boot space.
Nissan has tried to improve on it, even if the improvement is marginal with this layout. With all the rows up, both the MPVs have an unusable boot. But in the Gravite, this configuration provides slightly better legroom for the third-row passenger.
The twin-cylinder layout may improve boot space, but it severely hinders loading ease. You make this trade-off for better packaging and boot space. The technical details of the CNG variant are still unclear, and we will have to wait until Nissan officially launches it.

Features & Specifications

The CNG kit will be retrofitted by the dealer. Be worry-free, as this fitting will be certified and won’t void your warranty. You get the CNG fitted to a 1.0-litre petrol engine (71 bhp & 96 Nm), and it is mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.
As for the features, you get equipment such as a 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a wireless phone charger, an 8.0-inch infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and much more. Other features include a cooled glovebox, a JBL-6 Speaker sound system, a rear parking camera, and more.
