While Indians are opting for SUVs, some brands are taking efforts to keep sedans alive. We have a segment of compact sedans, which is dominated by the Maruti Dzire. However, one of the hottest segments that once ruled the country is now left with four premium & powerful cars! These four cars do add to the sales of their respective brands, and interestingly, each of these is getting readied for major updates in 2026! Yes, we are talking about C-segment sedans, which include India’s oldest nameplates!

The Game Changer!

The first of the four sedans to be launched in 2026 will be the Skoda Slavia! The sedan was first launched in India in 2022 and gave a new life to the segment. The Slavia, with its massive boot space, cabin space, and high ground clearance, made sure to attract some of the SUV buyers. What also added to the attractiveness of the Slavia are the engine options. It comes with two engine options, and both are turbo petrol units – 1.0-litre TSI (114bhp & 178Nm) & 1.5-litre TSI (148bhp & 250Nm). And lastly, the German engineering played a huge role in its success – excellent driving dynamics & safety. However, it came with a few shortcomings, including poor AC performance & a lack of some advanced features.

To improve the product, Skoda is set to launch the Slavia facelift in India. Talking of which, the brand will likely launch the Slavia facelift on either 19th of January or 20th of January – as Skoda has asked us to reserve these 2 days for events. Upon launch, the Slavia will make its appearance with a new design & enhanced feature list. A few spy shots have already confirmed the car to get new design elements such as a new front grille, redesigned headlamps & taillamps, revised bumpers & new alloy wheels. On the inside, we are expecting a refreshed dashboard design and new features like a panoramic sunroof, Level 2 ADAS and more. The engine options will likely remain the same; however, the smaller capacity engine is expected to come with a new 8-speed automatic gearbox. Overall, Skoda will be aiming to make the Slavia more desirable than ever before.

Love It Or Hate It – Upcoming Cars Under Rs 20 Lakh

Post the launch of the Skoda Slavia, Hyundai is expected to launch the Slavia rival in a new avatar. Yes, we are talking about the Hyundai Verna. The sedan underwent a major design overhaul in 2023 but was backlashed for the same. However, interested buyers also appreciated the efforts Hyundai has taken to make the interior premium than ever before. Also, even today, it is one of the most feature-loaded cars in the segment. Having said that, the sales never took off for Hyundai, and so, the brand has decided to give the current-gen Verna its first makeover!

So, just like the Slavia, multiple spy shots of the Verna facelift have surfaced on the internet. And although Hyundai did a smart job of camouflaging the test car, we successfully noticed some upcoming changes. So, just like any other facelifts, the Verna will receive minor tweaks to the exterior design. Its face, which was not to everyone’s liking for the connected LED treatment, will likely continue with the facelift. However, we expect Hyundai will make some tweaks to the headlamp setup & the front bumpers to make it appear much more conventional. The test car was also spotted with new alloy wheels, and while it has one of the best rear profiles, it is expected to see some changes, too.

The interior, although it does not need major changes, is expected to undergo some refreshment. One of the spy shots has already revealed a twin 12.3-inch screen setup that looks to be borrowed from the Hyundai Venue! Rest, a few new features will make their way in the Verna facelift! Apart from some design enhancements, the engine options will likely remain the same. It gets a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine & a powerful 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine that produces 158bhp & 253Nm! Yes, the Verna is currently the most powerful car in its segment, and Hyundai will continue the Verna with the same powertrains.

The Best-Seller!

Looking at the initial success of the Skoda Slavia, VW decided to try its luck with the Virtus! As we all know, the Virtus shares the platform, engine options & literally every element with the Slavia. The only differentiating factors are branding & design, which have likely made a better impact on the buyers than the Slavia! Why? Well, VW sells more units of the Virtus than the Slavia and is currently the best seller in its segment. Having said that, VW will want the Virtus to be the best seller and not get affected by the upgrades its rivals will receive. In the process, the Virtus will also undergo some major changes. However, the launch is expected to happen in the second half of 2026!

So, what will happen to the Virtus with the facelift? Well, the best-seller will indeed receive some minor exterior changes. However, VW will not play much with it, as it has been one of the car’s USPs. The muscular stance and conventional design elements will continue, but we can expect some subtle changes for a refreshed appeal. On the other hand, the interior may undergo some major changes, which might bring an entirely new dashboard layout. Along with these, the expected features that we mentioned for the Slavia will also make their way into the Virtus. Similarly, the engine options will also remain the same, and the Virtus will continue to be one of the best driver’s cars.

India’s Oldest Nameplate – Upcoming Cars Under Rs 20 Lakh

And finally, we will have an upgrade to India’s oldest running nameplates! A name that took the market by storm ever since it was first launched in 1998. It rivalled multiple cars in its life cycle & even faced the heat from the SUV segment. Today, it is in its 5th gen avatar, which unfortunately never saw the sales like its competitors. Yes, we are talking about one of the dream cars of every Indian – the Honda City.

The City received a generational upgrade in 2020 and came out with a mixed reaction from enthusiasts. The aggressive design saw some subtleness, and the popular asymmetrical design was swapped with a more conventional layout, which never appealed to the youths! With the new gen that is expected to arrive by late 2026, Honda will try to make the City a more attractive package than before. The exterior will get new elements and probably a design to stand out from the segment.

Similarly, the interior will also see a significant design change. Especially the dashboard layout will see some more engaging design elements & also expect Honda to use high-quality materials. And finally, the features! The current City is a feature-packed car; however, the qualities of the touchscreen or cameras are not up to the standards of its competitors. Honda would like to change those units with bigger & better systems. Also, the camera-based ADAS system on the current model could be upgraded with a new setup of radar plus camera.

What Honda will likely not change in the new-gen City is the engine. Similar to the current model, the next-gen City is expected to continue with the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. This engine is also paired with a strong hybrid powertrain and will also remain part of the pack. 

Overall, in a rare instance of the Indian auto industry, an entire segment is set to receive some or the other upgrades. We have four cars in C segment sedans and all four are set to compete with fresh appearance in 2026! So, which of these sedans will you bet your money on?
