Never Done Before In India – Telangana Government Offer

Let’s be honest, when was the last time a government did something that actually put money back in its employees’ pockets? Telangana just did exactly that, and in a way no other state in India has ever tried before. Rather than going through the same old subsidy paperwork and waiting games, Telangana sat down directly with car manufacturers and said, “Give our people a better deal”, and the manufacturers agreed. The result? A straight-up discount of up to 20 per cent on the purchase of new two-wheelers and four-wheelers, directly from the brand.

Over five lakh state government employees are set to benefit from this, and the brands already on board read like a who’s who of the new-age automobile world: Mahindra Electric, Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and Gravton Motors. Tata Motors is also in talks to join the list, which means the options are only going to grow from here.

Discount Is Just The Beginning

Here is where it gets even better. Telangana has already scrapped road tax and registration fees entirely for new vehicles, private cars, commercial carriers, and tractors. And this exemption runs until December 31, 2026, with absolutely no limit on how many vehicles can be registered under it.
Now do the math. Road tax on a standard car in Telangana sits anywhere between 12 and 15 per cent of the vehicle’s value. On a premium electric SUV, waiving that alone saves you somewhere between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 3 lakh.

What About Charging? – Telangana Government Offer

You can buy an EV vehicle, but if there is no place to charge, it’s not much of a deal. Telangana knows this, and it has already started working on the ground. Charging stations are being installed across government offices, from the Secretariat down to district- and mandal-level buildings. Public parking areas, hotels, malls, and commercial complexes are also being included. The state is also establishing a dedicated headquarters to oversee and advance this entire ecosystem.

The Bigger Game Plan

Here is what makes this whole story truly interesting. This is not just a feel-good scheme for government employees. Telangana has quietly issued a directive that every single vehicle purchased by any government department in the future must be electric. No exceptions. Even private vehicles hired for government use in city limits are expected to make the switch.
The state already operates more than 2,800 electric buses as part of its public transport fleet, and nearly one lakh auto-rickshaws currently running on petrol, diesel, or gas are set to be retrofitted with electric kits. The message is clear: this state is not just talking about green mobility. It is actually building it.
