New Tata SUV Launch Confirmed!

Tata currently has only one 7-seater in its lineup – the Safari. And now, the Safari is set to get a new avatar. Tata noticed Mahindra breaking sales records with the XEV9S, even surpassing the Windsor EV and Nexon.ev. And now, Tata is planning to answer Mahindra with the Safari.ev.
We had speculated a few months ago about the possible development of the Safari.ev, and now industry sources suggest that these speculations are set to come true. Production of the Safari.ev is expected to start by August and could go on sale by October or November this year. Can the Safari EV cause trouble for the best-selling EV in India? Let us find out.

Powertrain

Like with many of its other SUVs, Tata is expected to use the Activ.ev platform with the Safari.ev. This means it would carry over the same powertrains as the Harrier EV.
The Harrier EV is offered with a 65kWh pack and a 75kWh pack, with claimed ranges of 538km and 627km, respectively. However, the electrified Safari will have a slightly shorter range due to its additional weight and length compared to the Harrier.
The lower variants will get a single-motor RWD drivetrain as standard, while the top trims will be offered with a dual-motor AWD option, like with the electric Harrier.

Tata Safari.ev Launching Soon – Looks & Features

The Safari EV is expected to receive minor cosmetic changes compared to its fuel-powered sibling. A closed-off grille, distinct colour options, and aero-optimised alloy wheels are among the aesthetic updates expected.

The Safari.ev is also expected to use Tata’s TiDAL architecture from the Harrier.ev. To put it in simpler terms, the Safari EV would come with a plethora of tech features, including a 540-degree camera, Level-2 ADAS, OTA updates, and an in-car payment system. To complement the tech features, it would also get luxury amenities like ventilated and powered front seats, ventilated rear seats (if offered with a 6-seater option), a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, a 14.5-inch infotainment screen, a 12.25-inch digital driver’s display, and much more.

Expected Pricing

You would have to pay a slight premium over the Harrier.ev for the additional row of seats. However, Tata would also need to be aggressive with the pricing to tackle the XEV9S. We expect it to be priced around Rs 22 lakh and Rs 32 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
With the Safari EV, Tata hopes to eat into some of the XEV9S’s market share. The sales report clearly depicts the demand for an electric 7-seater SUV, and the Safari.ev will be Tata’s response to this demand.
