Tata Sierra CNG:

Last year, Tata introduced the Sierra with three engine options, including a 1.5-litre turbo petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel, and another 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. Most of us speculated that the Sierra EV would be the upcoming launch, but we already have the Sierra CNG on the roads.

But, Tata is not the one behind this Sierra CNG. We came across a brand-new Sierra getting an aftermarket CNG conversion. Tata might bring the Sierra CNG to market in the coming years, but the Indians are already ahead of the brand. The one we are mentioning is driven straight out of the showrooms to the CNG conversion workshop. How exactly is this done?
CNG fitment in most cars isn’t plug-and-play; it requires some modifications to the stock car. Here, the host mentions that he has been installing the EuropeGAS in compliance with Sierra’s engine. The EuropeGAS CNG kit includes additional connectors, different injectors, and an ECM to be installed in the engine bay. Not to forget the fuel line running from the carbay, under the car, to the car’s boot, where it meets the CNG tank. How does this modification actually affect the new Sierra?
Effects Of CNG On Sierra:

The host has been conducting on-road testing on this Sierra, and the most significant change is an increase in fuel efficiency. With the NA petrol powertrain, the Tata Sierra delivers about 18.2 kmpl. With the aftermarket CNG system, the Sierra delivers 28.8 km per kg of CNG (on highways). Not just this, the Sierra CNG is expected to be more environmentally friendly, producing fewer harmful emissions.
Having heard of the positives, here are some concerns that we have regarding this modification. First and foremost, interfering with the car’s electronics can void your car warranty and insurance. In the event of any malfunction, the car brand and insurance company won’t cover it due to this modification. The performance can also decline in CNG mode. Another downside to this aftermarket CNG kit is the big CNG tank. Unlike the traditional dual-cylinder technology, this big tank eats up more boot space.
Hearing all of this, would you consider this retrofitted CNG kit in your Sierra?
