Tata Punch Facelift – What to Expect? » MotorOctane

It is difficult to categorise the Tata Punch in a segment. Its dimensions are significantly smaller than those of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, etc and yet Tata refers to it as an SUV. Customers haven’t been bothered by the issues with this categorisation, as evidenced by the sales figures. The Punch is the 2nd best-selling Tata vehicle, after the Nexon, by a mighty margin. It has almost twice the sales of the cheaper hatchback, Tiago.

Launched in 2021, the Punch hasn’t been revised ever since. However, it was recently spotted on Indian highways in camouflage, suggesting a facelift is in production. Here is some information that you need to know about the upcoming facelift.

Exteriors

A distinct tall stature has been carried forward in the facelift, because it is supposed to be an SUV after all. Not many aesthetic details were visible under the camouflage, but a distinct change stood out. The Punch donned Altroz-esque taillights. After a closer look, you may find out that the taillights are now joined and a newer alloy wheel design.

Since the Punch EV was launched 3 years after the combustion variants, it features fresher, sharper design cues. This is about to change in the updated versions, where both variants will have identical looks.

The structure requires minimal tweaks since the current Punch is one of the safest vehicles on sale today, with a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. It uses the ALFA architecture for its EV, CNG and ICE platforms. The upcoming revisions will be primarily aesthetic. Reports also suggest that Tata will try to boost

An Updated Cabin

Unlike the exteriors, the interior wasn’t concealed well. A 10.25” touchscreen, wireless charging port and an electric sunroof were spotted. Tata is unlikely to skimp on features for the micro-SUV. A 360-degree parking camera, blind-spot monitoring, and ventilated front seats are just some of the features we expect.

The outgoing ICE models used a 3-spoke steering wheel, while the Punch EV came equipped with a 2-spoke steering wheel. The upcoming Punch facelift will come with a 2-spoke steering wheel as standard. Aligning with Tata’s new design language, the AC control switches will be touch-sensitive as well.

The Tata Punch facelift will adopt a cabin similar to the outgoing Punch EV, saying goodbye to the somewhat outdated interiors found in the ICE versions.

Powertrain

Current ICE options include the 1.2L Petrol and the 1.2L Petrol-iCNG. The iCNG variant gets a 15-horsepower downgrade over the petrol one. iCNG owners have to sacrifice some of their power to reduce their fuel costs. Tata has made significant advancements in the CNG segment with the introduction of the twin-cylinder configuration, and it is no surprise that it will continue to use the iCNG system across all its future CNG models. Unsurprisingly, no diesel alternatives are available for such a hatchback, or, as Tata refers to it, a Micro-SUV. The same powertrain options are expected to be carried over in the facelift.

The current EV battery options are the 25 kWh battery pack, offering a claimed range of 315 km, and the 35 kWh battery pack, providing a claimed range of 421 km. Keep in mind that these ranges are claimed, and the actual range will be lower. Tata will also aim to increase the EV’s battery range, while minimising the charging times in the facelift.

Current gearbox options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT, which will continue to be on offer with the revised version.

Rivals

The micro-SUV sits in the 6-10 lakh price bracket, where it competes with the Hyundai Exter, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. Suspectedly, Hyundai is also planning a facelift for the Exter. The Punch EV faces little to no competition from the Mahindra XUV400, the Citroën eC3, and the Tata Tiago EV, but that may change with the upcoming Hyundai Inster EV.

Expected Pricing and Launch Date

A desirable price tag, over the current 6.7 lakh rupee starting price, is expected with the facelift, despite a minor price hike. The Punch remains one of the most affordable compact SUVs, while its electric variant is the 3rd-cheapest EV on the market, after the Tiago EV and Comet EV. Tata would refrain from changing this strategy to maintain their solid sales figures.

The facelift launch is scheduled for the early days of January 2026. Punch sales have declined compared to last year, and Tata aims to have an auspicious start to next year with this facelift.
