Did you know that the Tata Nexon is based on the same platform as the Indica, Tata’s first car in India? Surprising, isn’t it! Well, over the years, Tata has used the Indica’s X1 platform in many different cars, and the Nexon uses the same one. But it could now be time to move on from this platform and bring in something new. There have been rumours suggesting that Tata is working on a new-gen Nexon, codenamed “Garud”. Our sources suggest that the Nexon will likely get an update in the coming time, and will receive a new platform altogether. Speculations suggest that the next generation of the Nexon will be based on the same platform as Tata’s latest hit SUV, the Sierra. We believe that the Nexon will utilise the latest ARGOS platform. But why ARGOS?

Even though the X1 platform has been reworked and revised, it is still quite an old platform. However, if Tata offers the Nexon with the latest ARGOS platform, the Nexon will seem like an even better package. The new platform will allow for better space, comfort and practicality. Additionally, it will improve the driveability and dynamics of the SUV, making the car more comfortable as well as fun to drive. Moreover, being the latest platform, it can easily accommodate multiple new powertrain options, including electric and hybrid.

While the existing Nexon already offers a plethora of powertrain options like petrol, diesel, CNG and EV. But the ARGOS platform may allow for a new hybrid powertrain option, setting the Nexon apart from its competitors. There’s no such information suggesting that the Nexon could get a hybrid powertrain, but if it does get the new ARGOS platform, the possibility of a hybrid is much more likely.

If Tata decides to bring in a new-gen Nexon, it is highly likely that it will get an overhaul on the features front too! With the new-gen, we can expect to see features like a larger touchscreen, a powered co-passenger seat, rear ventilated seats, and a few more. On the engine options front, Tata will likely retain the existing engines: a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The brand will also continue to offer EV powertrains as well as the CNG powertrain option. We could expect to see a larger battery pack with the Nexon EV, likely borrowed from the Curvv.ev. With all the upgrades, we can expect the new-gen Nexon to be priced between ₹9 lakh and ₹18 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). We can expect Tata to launch the new-gen Nexon by late this year or early next year.
