The Knockout Punch!

In January 2025, Tata Motors crossed the 70,000 sales mark to become the second-best-selling automaker of the month. The SUVs that contributed to such impressive sales were the Nexon & the Punch. India’s favourite Tata Nexon yet again crossed the 23,000 monthly sales, while the Punch crossed the 19,000 mark. In fact, with the solid sales, the Punch created a new record! It became the fastest SUV to reach 7 lakh cumulative sales in just 4.3 years. The record shows how the Punch has disrupted the affordable car segment.

Adding some spice to the wounds of the competitors, Tata Motors decided to upgrade its most valuable asset! Yes, in January 2026, Tata Motors launched the Punch facelift in India. With that, the Punch facelift has become even stronger with some lucrative offerings! Be it in terms of features or engine options, the Punch has got better than ever before!

Tata Punch – Engine Options

Since its launch, the Punch has only had a single engine option. Tata Punch was always offered with a sole 1.2-litre NA petrol engine, with an option for CNG! The combination continues with the facelift, but now it also gets a new engine option! Yes, unexpectedly, Tata Motors has introduced the Punch with a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. It is the same engine that powers the Nexon, producing 118bhp & 170Nm. That’s not all! Even with the CNG, you now get an option for AMT, making the Punch India’s first & the only SUV to offer this combination. Along with this, the AMT variant of the Punch CNG also gets paddle shifters for your daily driving comfort.

Finally New Design

Tata Punch was first launched in 2021, when its design was in line with that of other Tata SUVs. However, over time, every other Tata car adopted a new design language. And among all of them, the Punch started looking dated. With a facelift, the brand finally refreshed the Punch’s design, and it no longer feels like an odd one out in the Tata family. Similar to other Tata SUVs, it gets the new vertically positioned LED headlamps, new alloy wheels & new connected LED taillamps.

Tata Punch – Good Things Remain Untouched!

Apart from the new engine & design, the other aspects that have made Punch a popular product have remained untouched. For starters, the Punch continues to be based on the Alfa Architecture. A few highlights of this platform include segment-best safety, excellent ride quality, & acres of cabin space. Even the high-set seating position of the Punch that gives you the feel of driving a bigger SUV, also remains the way it has always been. Adding to the overall practicality is the dual-cylinder CNG technology of Tata Motors. With the help of which, the Punch offers sufficient boot space even with the CNG-equipped variant. And last but not least is the feature-packed offering! The Punch comes loaded with a 10.25-inch touchscreen system, a 7-inch instrument cluster, an 8-speaker sound system, rear AC vents, and a 360-degree camera, among others.

Overall, the Punch has got a lot better than before. The new design for the interior & exterior, along with the new powertrain combination, makes the Punch a more sensible product in its segment. Talking of which, the updated Punch is currently priced between Rs 6.63 lakh & Rs 12.24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
