We believe that Tata will also look to revive and bring the legendary Sumo nameplate back to life. At the Sierra’s launch event, Tata revealed an all-new platform, ARGOS, which can also accommodate three rows, making it a 7-seater. So, Tata could bring in a 7-seater version of the Sierra with another legendary nameplate, the Sumo. The original Tata Sumo has been the quintessential people mover since its introduction.

Thanks to a spacious cabin and room for 9 people, the Sumo was a rugged, reliable and low-maintenance SUV. And now, with the new ARGOS platform that underpins the new Sierra, Tata could revive the Sumo in a more modern avatar. While the OG Sumo was more of a workhorse, the new Sumo could be a proper family SUV, with loads of room, comfort features and punchy performance. As of now, Tata has not revealed its plans for the Sumo, but we believe that this version of the Sumo will do a lot of good for the Indian audience as well as the brand.

What To Expect?

If Tata decides to bring back the Sumo, we expect it to have a boxy and utilitarian design. The Sumo could borrow most design cues from the Sierra, with a few unique elements to signify the Sumo. On the features front, the Sumo could borrow most of the features from the Sierra, like the triple-screen setup, Level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera, a panoramic sunroof and much more. If the Sumo does make it into production, the SUV will probably get the same engine options as the Sierra: a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine (105bhp & 145Nm), a 1.5-litre diesel engine (116bhp & 280Nm) and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine (158bhp & 255Nm). If Tata decides to launch the Sumo, we expect it to be priced between Rs 14 Lakh and Rs 26 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
