Tata Harrier And Safari Petrol Price 16 lakhs* Launch 2025

There is a significant shift in the automotive industry, with most car manufacturers moving towards petrol and hybrid powertrains over diesel. There are many contributors to this shift, but the major contributor is the tightening of pollution norms. A diesel engine to meet the Pollution Norms (BS6) must have more complex and costly components, such as a diesel particulate filter (DPF) or a selective catalytic reduction system. All of this complexity comes down to higher production and maintenance costs. In line with this trend, Tata Motors is also introducing petrol engine options across its flagship lineup. Under this move, Tata Safari and Harrier are to get a new petrol engine option. Here is what you need to know about them.

Key Changes

As we know, this is not a facelift for these SUVs; neither the Safari nor the Harrier is expected to see any changes to the exterior or interior design. Safari and Harrier are both set to follow a bulky body style, with tech-loaded interiors and modern safety features. Features include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, voice commands, wireless charging, an electric tailgate, large infotainment screens, and a digital instrument cluster. It also comes equipped with safety features, including 6 airbags as standard (the 7th airbag is optional). Both the Safari and the Harrier feature ADAS Level 2.

Powertrain

The most significant change in the Safari and Harrier occurs under the hood as Tata introduces the 1.5L T-GDi, code-named “Hyperion.” This new engine produces around 157.8 HP and 255 Nm of torque, first seen with the recently launched Tata Sierra. Tata will offer 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options, and also expects to introduce a 7-speed DCA. This powertrain closely resembles the one in the Tata Sierra, as Tata derived these petrol engines from the Sierra itself.

For reference, Mahindra offers the 1.5L mStallion petrol engine with power figures of 163 HP and 280 Nm of torque; on the other hand, MG’s 1.5L Turbo petrol engine delivers 141 HP and 250 Nm of torque. The engine that Hyundai offers with the Creta, the 1.5L T-GDi, produces 160 HP and 253 Nm of torque.

Rivals

The Tata Safari petrol variant will compete against the Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector. Mahindra XUV700 currently leads in monthly sales. Tata Harrier’s petrol variants will challenge the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Skoda Kushaq. Hyundai Creta remains the top contender with over 15,000 units sold monthly.
