JSW SUV Spotted Testing!

The news of JSW entering the automotive market (again) shook up the market. This time, it would be launching cars under its own name, not under the MG name. JSW has made big promises about its first SUV and has left people excited for the launch day. And if you were one of these people, this news will only make you happier. A test mule of its first SUV, Jetour T2, has been spotted testing without any camouflage.

On first glance, you would mistake it for the Defender. The side-opening tailgate, boxy stance, and tail-mounted spare wheel show that it is serious business. Its immense road presence is evident, and if launched, it would cause big trouble for SUVs that rely on “road-presence” as their main selling point. Interestingly, you can spot the “Jetour” and “T2” badging. These names are subject to change, as JSW would use their own badge for the production spec. We could also see a different name than T2.

JSW Jetour T2 Spotted – Interior

The Jetour T2 is already on sale in the Chinese market, so there is no mystery about what the car would look like on the inside and on the outside. The interior looks built-for-purpose with the upright dashboard layout. While it is sold primarily as a 5-seater, the Indian-spec could be offered with a 7-seater layout.

As for features, we expect it to include –

  • 360-degree parking camera
  • Level 2 ADAS
  • Power and ventilated front seats
  • 15.6-inch infotainment screen
  • 10.25-inch digital driver’s display
  • Panoramic sunroof.
  • Wireless Charging
  • Leatherette seats and much more.

Powertrain

This is where JSW plan to change the market. The Jetour T2 will be offered as a PHEV (plug-in hybrid). The global-spec variant is offered with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, mated to a strong-hybrid powertrain. It will also be offered with a 4WD drivetrain. What’s more interesting is that it will be based on a monocoque chassis, which is very “un-SUV-like”.

But the main advantage of a PHEV will be its fuel efficiency. The hybrid powertrain would help the economy figures big time, giving it an edge in the current SUV market.

JSW Jetour T2 Spotted – Expected Pricing & Launch

JSW made a shocking announcement when it said it would launch a PHEV in the Rs 15 lakh to Rs 30 lakh price range. This would mean it directly competes with the Scorpio N. It will be a huge task for JSW to offer a PHEV at this price. This price would make it the cheapest PHEV in India. The only other PHEV would be the upcoming MG Starlight 560, which is another JSW product.

During the first few months, JSW will import several components from abroad and gradually localise production. This would result in a higher initial price tag, but the price may be lower over time.

The manufacturer has set a tentative deadline of Diwali 2026, which is around October-November. So if you are planning to get a rugged off-roader with high efficiency figures, you need to hold your horses until then.
