Volkswagen’s Upcoming SUV

Volkswagen is working on an all-new compact SUV for the Indian market, with a launch expected around mid-2027. The upcoming model is expected to mark VW’s entry into the highly competitive sub-4-metre SUV segment, where the brand currently has no presence. Volkswagen has been out of this segment for quite a while, unlike its sister Skoda, which already has Kylaq in this space.
Volkswagen had launched the Tera in the Brazilian market last year. Since the upcoming SUV is likely be based on a similar platform, we can expect it to be the Volkswagen Tera. If not Tera, VW can bring this product with a rebadged name for the Indian market.

What To Expect?

The new SUV is expected to follow a familiar Volkswagen Group strategy. Like the Taigun and Skoda Kushaq, it is likely to share its platform and mechanical components with the Kylaq. Talking about the exterior design, the SUV is expected to feature a modern look, with a sleek front grille, LED Headlamps, roof rails, and LED tail lamps.
In terms of interiors, we expect features like front ventilated seats, a 10.1-inch digital infotainment display paired with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, electric sunroof, front ventilated powered seats and more. The car is also likely to come with some advanced features like cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), hill hold assist, and more. With all these features being offered, Volkswagen is likely to price this SUV between the range of Rs 9 lakh and Rs 16 lakh (on-road Mumbai).

Powertrain

There have been no official statements, but the SUV is expected to feature the same engine that is carried by the Skoda Kylaq. This means we can expect a 1-litre TSI engine producing 114bhp and 178Nm. The engine is likely to be paired with the 6-speed manual. Additionally, Volkswagen might bring the 8-speed AT transmission to this SUV, which was recently introduced in the Skoda Kushaq facelift.
