NeoKavach Airbag Launched!

The NeoKavach has launched one of India’s most revolutionary riding gears that could be quite useful in a crash situation. It is a wearable airbag jacket that uses a tether-based mechanical trigger system attached to the motorcycle. When the rider crashes and falls off the motorcycle, the tether gets pulled, deploying the airbag. The best part is that this airbag is reusable. To be able to reuse the airbag, you get replaceable cartridges filled with CO2, which inflate the airbag in the event of a crash. There are two different sizes of CO2 cartridges: 60CC (Rs 2,000) and 100CC (Rs 2,500). These cartridges get a 10-year guarantee with no expiration date for the product. The NeoKavach airbag is available in 3 variants: Air Vest, Tech Pack Air and Tech Pack Pro. The basic Air Vest costs Rs 32,400, the Tech Pack Air costs Rs 36,000, and the Tech Pack Pro costs Rs 40,800.

Not only is this for protection, but it also gets a slew of convenience features. The top-spec variant, Tech Pack Pro, is a wearable backpack that has a CE Level 2 back protector, a hydration bladder, a built-in helmet holder, a waterproof cover, and expandable storage of up to 23 litres. That said, the NeoKavach air vest seems to be quite a useful product in terms of safety as well as convenience. However, is it worth buying?

Should You Buy?

If you want the added safety of an airbag, the NeoKavach is a great option. However, the prices do seem quite high. For instance, buying an ECE 22.06 verified helmet, CE Level 2 certified riding pants and jackets, riding shoes and good quality gloves will cost you around Rs 27,000, which is still cheaper than the most basic NeoKavach. And in our experience, all these riding gears do a very good job of protecting the rider in a crash. So, should you really spend Rs 32,400 for the NeoKavach? Well, if you are purchasing the NeoKavach as an additional safety blanket over your existing riding gear, you can go for it.

However, it is quite expensive and does the same job as the riding gear you have. Plus, if you are only going to buy this airbag and not use any other riding gear, that wouldn’t be the best decision. Another concern that we have is that the tether is attached to the bike. So, if the tether is triggered incorrectly, the airbag may not deploy. So, if you wish to invest and get the NeoKavach as a secondary safety net, it is a great option. But if this is going to be the only riding gear you use, it might not be worth it.
