VW Taigun Vs Renault Duster

With the arrival of the Renault Duster, the mid-size SUV segment has entered another league. The French automotive brand has unleashed such an SUV that has all the potential to lock horns with all other SUVs in its segment. The iconic Duster has all the potential, and now arrives with a massive performance bump and a rugged DNA. However, Volkswagen has its best weapon, the Taigun, for the segment to stand head-to-head. The Taigun has held the crown as the most solid and fun-to-drive German SUV, and it has now been updated.

Design and Dimensions

The Taigun just got a facelift and gets a tougher look. The front fascia has been tweaked to feature a new grille inspired by the Tayron, a sleek connected DRL bar, and an illuminated Volkswagen Logo. The GT variant carries the blacked-out treatment, replacing chrome with gloss black bits.
The Duster, on the other hand, is all about that Go-Anywhere stance. It has now grown significantly. Now gets more rugged and appeals to the current market. With a massive 212mm ground clearance that pushes back the Taigun’s 188mm. For city commutes and leisure, the Taigun works well, and for an SUV that maintains its commanding stance and commands respect on the road, the Duster is the choice.
| Feature | VW Taigun (2026) | Renault Duster (2026) |
| Length | 4221 mm | 4343 mm |
| Ground Clearance | 188 mm | 212 mm |
| Boot Space | 385 Litres | 518 Litres |
VW Taigun Vs Renault Duster – Interior and Features

The Taigun facelift has now compensated for the feature gap: it now comes with a Panoramic sunroof, a larger driver’s display, and AI-integrated voice commands. The cabin cooling is also improved with a more powerful air conditioning system. However, the Duster feels more modern and functional as it features a 10.1-inch infotainment system and a 10.25-inch driver’s display. While the Taigun feels premium in its plastic quality and fit and finish, the Duster offers more adventurous features, such as an ADAS suite with 17 functions and a massive 518-litre boot, perfect for long weekend drives.

Engine and Performance

Volkswagen continues to offer the enthusiast’s favourite 1.5-litre TSI engine, mated to the fabled 7-speed DSG. Importantly, with the facelift, it gets a new 8-speed Torque Converter for the 1.0-litre variants.
Renault has brought the 1.3-litre Turbo TCe 160, a powerhouse that produces a massive 280 Nm of torque, making it punchier in the mid-range than the Taigun. The Duster also has a 1.0-litre TCe engine, which is accessible and versatile for city traffic and daily commutes.
| Engine Specs | VW Taigun GT (1.5 TSI) | Renault Duster (1.3 Turbo) |
| Max Power | 148 BHP | 160 BHP |

VW Taigun Vs Renault Duster – Pricing

Pricing is the most interesting part. The top-end Duster, the Iconic variant, is priced aggressively, making it a value for money, while the Taigun GT Plus commands a premium for its superior build quality, safety, and brand value. The Renault Duster ‘Iconic’ is priced at approximately ₹ 22.50 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The Taigun Facelift (Top Variant) will be priced at approximately ₹ 23-24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), since the outgoing model costs the same.

Which one to go for?

The Taigun Facelift is the one for those who want a safe SUV with the popular VW badge and a relatively hassle-free ownership experience. It is also the perfect package as a city-driven SUV. However, the Duster is for those who need more space and power. The Duster dominates the roads with its muscular stance and road presence, and does highway trips with a full load of luggage with ease! The Duster’s 160 bhp and 518-litre boot are a touring advantage and an overall adventure package. Moreover, when VW unveil the pricing for the Taigun, we expect it to be higher than that of the Duster.
