This Citroen dealership in Coimbatore is offering a C3X for free if you buy a C5 Aircross. You get 2 cars at the price of one. It is pretty expected that there will be tons of asterisks to this deal. For instance, the dealership could offer a base variant C3 instead of a feature-loaded one. Nevertheless, the deal seems too good to be true, and why is Citroën doing this?

The 1st of April is still a few months away, so this deal is pretty real. Citroën is doing this to boost sales of the C5 Aircross, as its figures have been lacklustre: it has sold just 5 units over the past 6 months. Citroen hopes to clear away some of its stock with this deal.
The C5 Aircross faces two issues – pricing and reputation. The C5 Aircross is priced at Rs 45.43 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). And for the same price, you could get the popular Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster and many other options. All these cars offer more features and more powerful engine options. Plus, the C5 Aircross is a 5-seater and lacks the practicality of its rivals. If you have so many solid options, the C5 Aircross never really crosses your mind.
Moreover, Citroën’s reputation doesn’t help its case either. It is known for its poor service network and after-sales service, and people try to avoid such automakers for convenience.

The C5 Aircross offers a feature list that includes a 10-inch infotainment display, a rear parking camera, a 12.25-inch digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, a blind-spot monitoring system, push-button start, etc. For a price tag of almost Rs 45 lakh, you expect a bigger list. It gets a 2.0-litre diesel engine (175 bhp & 400 Nm) and is mated to an 8-speed AT.
On the other hand, the C3X seems like a much better deal. It comes with features like a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a 360-degree camera, a wireless charger, and a 10.2-inch infotainment display. You also get two powertrain options – a 1.2-litre NA petrol and a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol. The C3X is priced between Rs 5.88 lakh and Rs 11.10 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
Arguably, the C3X matches the C5 Aircross in terms of equipment, which is quite surprising given that the C5 costs almost Rs 35 lakh more. It makes sense why Citroen is offering such a deal.
On paper, the C3X offers much better value for money than the C5 Aircross. This offer may seem shocking at first glance, but even after getting an entire car free, very few people would opt for it. You would be better off buying an SUV like the 7XO, Creta, Sierra, etc., and buying many C3s with the money left over.
