Major Updates

The monopoly of RE bikes in the 350-400cc bikes is no more. When Triumph unveiled its range of 400cc bikes, it gave the Indian public a fresh new option to choose from. But with the new tax reforms, Triumph faces heavy troubles.

To put it simply, under the tax reforms, the tax on 400cc engines was raised to 40%, while the tax on sub-350cc engines was cut to 18%. Everyone expected Triumph bikes to get expensive. Fortunately for Triumph lovers, the pricing remained the same, and Triumph and its partner, Bajaj, bore the losses to keep the customer base happy. But Triumph could keep up with these losses for so long. And that is why it is expected to make a significant change in its lineup to get back to normalcy.

Triumph will be specifically affected by this reform, since its best sellers use a 400cc engine. And now Rajiv Bajaj has announced a major revamp of the Triumph lineup by April 2026 to address this issue.

New Triumph Bikes Confirmed!

The current platform for the Scrambler 400, Speed 400, T4 and the Thruxton is based on the 400cc. Triumph will update the platform to accommodate a smaller 349cc engine. And all the above-mentioned bikes will use this revised platform. These models will undergo this update by April of this year. We also expect the upcoming Bonnevile 350 to be based on this platform. Which means we could see 5 new Triumph bikes this year.

While the official details have yet to be revealed, we expect Triumph to either reduce the current engine’s bore capacity or develop an all-new engine for the new platform. It will aim not to compromise on performance figures while improving on efficiency.

Good News Or Not?

Many would complain that a smaller engine would hamper the riding experience. While these people would be correct to a certain extent, the advantage of this revamp is too significant to ignore. The main reason for this change is to sit in a lower tax bracket. This means that the Triumph models are set to get cheaper and more affordable. We expect these 4 models to get cheaper by around Rs 14,000 to Rs 16,000. You could use the money you saved on multiple road trips with your new 350cc Triumph.

If you are planning to buy a Triumph, all you have to do is wait until April and save a lot of money. You should only pull the trigger now if you cannot compromise on the feel of a 400cc engine.
