Skoda Octavia RS Vs Volkswagen Golf GTI

As soon as Skoda announced the commencement of the Octavia RS’s bookings, the 100 units of the car were sold out within just 20 minutes. This shows the love Indians have for the Octavia RS. On the other hand, there was a huge buzz when VW decided to bring the Golf GTI to India. At first, Volkswagen planned to bring the Golf GTI in batches, of which the first batch was of 150 units. The first batch was sold out soon after the booking opened. But what’s so special about these cars?

Design

In terms of design, both these cars are head turners. The Skoda Octavia RS sports aggressive design elements like 19-inch alloy wheels, a sports exhaust, a boot lip spoiler, blacked out badging and much more. On the inside, the sportiness extends with an all-black interior with red elements. The dashboard and a few other panels get a suede finish with red stitching. Adding to the sporty cabin are RS sports seats, which offer better support when driving enthusiastically. That said, the Skoda Octavia RS is quite an exciting-looking car, especially in its Mamba Green shade. 

On the other hand, the VW Golf GTI sports a proper hot-hatch design. When compared to a regular Golf, the GTI gets an aggressive front bumper, 19-inch wheels, GTI badging on the front grille, a twin-exhaust setup, a subtle roof-mounted spoiler and much more. Entering the cabin, you are greeted with an all-black interior with red stitching. You get tartan-clad sports seats, a GTI steering wheel, and a few more sporty elements.

Features – Skoda Octavia RS Vs Volkswagen Golf GTI

Both these cars are quite well-equipped in terms of features. Skoda Octavia RS gets a slew of features like a 12.9-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, powered, ventilated and massaging front seats, a head-up display with augmented reality and loads more. 

On the contrary, the Golf GTI gets similar features like a 12.9-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, a three-zone climate control, adaptive cruise control and much more. Both the Golf GTI and the Octavia RS have very similar features, as they are both part of the VW group.

Performance And Price

Believe it or not, the Octavia RS and the Golf GTI share the same engine and identical power and torque figures. Both get a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine producing 261bhp and 370Nm of torque, along with a 7-speed DCT. It is the same to assume that both perform in a similar way. However, there could be a few differences between the two in terms of powerband and torque curve. Plus, the Golf GTI is almost 100 kg lighter than the Octavia RS. So, the Golf GTI may perform slightly better than the Octavia RS.

The Golf GTI carries a price tag of Rs 65.41 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The Skoda Octavia RS is priced at Rs 63.19 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
