Punch.ev – Powertrains

In most facelifts, the major changes are to the exterior of the car, not the hardware. But Tata seems to have a different approach to this. The major update in the Punch.ev is made to its powertrain offerings. Battery pack sizes have gone up from 25kWh and 35kWh to 30kWh and 40kWh. With the bigger battery packs, the range has increased to 375km and 468km for 30kWh and 40kWh battery packs, respectively. The charging times remains to be same as before. Supporting DC fast charging, the Punch can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 30 min.

Looks –

The front face has undergone some changes, with the connected LED-DRL removed, and the small grille under the charging port has disappeared. The headlamps and foglamps remain in the same place as before. The rear end also gets a notable change with the update, featuring a connected taillamp. The seal-off front face adds more EV-like character to the Punch. Punch.ev continues with 16-inch alloy wheels and the same design.

Features:

Inside the cabin, Punch.ev hasn’t changed a lot, apart from some software updates. It still features the same 10.25-inch infotainment screen and digital driver’s display, a 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and a two-spoke steering wheel. This facelift has yet to be tested for the safety rating, but with the latest version receiving 5-star ratings at Bharat NCAP, it is expected to follow the same.

Pricing:

With the bigger battery packs, we expected a price hike, but the facelift has been introduced at lower prices than before. New Punch.ev is priced between Rs 10.20 lakh and Rs 13.39 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Tata is also offering the EV under the Baas scheme at Rs 6.49 (ex-showroom). In addition, Tata offers a lifetime/unlimited-kilometre warranty with a 40kWh battery pack, which is only applicable to the first owner and lasts for the car’s 15-year lifespan.

Overall, the Punch.ev has improved since before. Would you consider this your next city car?
