Best MPV To Buy?

Today, we will compare the Ertiga with the newly launched Nissan Gravite. The Gravite costs between Rs. 6.63 lakh and Rs. 10.43 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai), which is much cheaper than the Ertiga’s price range of Rs. 10.30 lakh and Rs. 15.33 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). But does the Ertiga justify such a huge price premium?

Maruti Ertiga Vs Nissan Gravite – Looks

If you are looking for an MPV, looks are probably the least of your worries. While the Ertiga has a pretty conventional design language, the Gravite comes across as slightly more modern, with its funky front and rear bumpers and unique decals. The Gravite looks fresher of the two.

Practicality

This is why you buy an MPV. The Gravite, being a sub-4m car, falls behind the longer Ertiga in this regard. The Ertiga has a more usable 209-litre boot, when compared to the Gravite’s measly 84-litre boot. The Ertiga boasts a bigger boot than the Gravite, even with a CNG kit.

However, the Gravite is pretty practical, given that it is just 3.9 m long and has a 625-litre boot with the 3rd row removed.
The difference in size is pretty evident inside the cabin as well. The Ertiga can seat 7-adults with decent comfort, while the Gravite would struggle to carry 6. The 2nd- and 3rd-row space for the Ertiga is significantly better than that of the Gravite’s.

Powertrain –
As for the powertrain, this is how these cars compare against each other
| Powertrain | Ertiga | Gravite |
| Engine | 1.5-litre NA Petrol | 1.0-litre NA petrol |
| Gearbox | 5-speed manual / 6-speed AT (no AT for CNG) | 5-speed manual / 5-speed CNG |

The Ertiga wins in this department, as it comes with a more powerful engine, better fuel efficiency, and the option of a torque converter gearbox. The Ertiga also gets a CNG powertrain, while the Gravite does not yet offer one. However, the Gravite is expected to get a dual-cylinder CNG option very soon.

Maruti Ertiga Vs Nissan Gravite – Our Verdict

The final results for these comparisons were 2-2. The Gravite marginally won the duel on looks and features. But the Ertiga won where it mattered in the powertrain and practicality departments. The Gravite offers decent value for money. For around Rs 7-8 lakh, you cannot find a more practical option.

The Ertiga may not be feature-loaded, but it offers two things an MPV owner desires: practicality and fuel efficiency. And these criteria are also the reason for its popularity amongst fleet vehicles.
It is difficult to pinpoint a clear winner, as the Gravite may miss out on practicality and the engine department, but you also save almost Rs 3 lakh over the Ertiga. The final decision is up to you and may vary depending on your requirements, from a practical 7-seater.
