Premium Fuel Price Hike

Under the current E20 norms, the only way to get unblended petrol is to buy premium fuel. Many people are worried that E20 will damage their engines, so they are willing to pay a premium for high-octane petrol or high-cetane diesel. But if you are one of these people, Bad News!
Indian Oil has hiked up the prices for XP100 (100 Octane) petrol and Xtra Green premium diesel. Earlier, XP100 fuel cost Rs 149/litre, and Xtra Green was priced at Rs 91.49/litre. But now, it costs Rs 160/litre and Rs 92.99/litre respectively. Don’t panic just yet, as these prices are limited to Indian Oil petrol pumps in Delhi. But if the unrest in the Middle East escalates, we could see other states affected as well.

What About Others?

Shell has hiked prices across all its petrol stations. Regular petrol costs Rs 119.85/litre, and Power (premium) petrol costs Rs 129.85/litre. This is a Rs 7.41/litre hike. As for diesel, standard fuel costs Rs 123.52/litre, and premium diesel costs Rs 133.32/litre, a whopping Rs 25.01/litre price hike.
However, things remain calm for other fuel supplies. Don’t worry about regular E20 fuel yet, as the government says India has a fuel surplus of 2 months. Furthermore, the government has reduced excise duty on petrol from Rs 13/litre to Rs 3/litre. It has also eliminated excise duty for diesel to keep the fuel prices consistent and stable.
All in all, it is bad news for Shell and, in particular, XP100 users. Prices could surge further in the future, but don’t panic as of yet.
