Not Apple But Samsung To Launch Its First SUV In India

A Samsung SUV?

It would be surprising that the next product that Samsung launches after the S26 is its new SUV. Unfortunately, we would have to burst this bubble as Samsung stopped making cars before we even knew it. In South Korea, Samsung partnered with Renault to sell cars under the Samsung-Renault brand. But its tie-up with Renault ceased in 2022. But one SUV that was sold under the Samsung-Renault brand has been spotted in India.

From the pictures, you can spot a familiar name – Koleos. Renault sold the Koleos in India a long time ago but failed to gain traction, and it was discontinued 5 years after its launch. The model that has been spotted is based on the Samsung-Renault QM6. After Renault’s partnership with Samsung ended, it began selling the QM6 under its own badge. Moreover. Renault sold it as the Koleos in the UK and will do the same if launched in India.

New Renault’s SUV!

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time that the Koleos has been spotted testing in India. It was first spotted testing 2 years ago, and it has been spotted again. From the looks of it, the Koleos is a handsome-looking car. The clean, smooth body design gives it a sophisticated, elegant look. The design may remind you of the Renault Captur. It looks like a more premium offering than the rugged Duster. We also expect it to sit above the Duster in its lineup.

Globally, it is a premium 5-seater SUV and competes against SUVs like the Tucson. But the market for such SUVs is small in India, and Renault would need to offer a 7-seater variant for a better chance.

New Renault SUV – Features & Specifications

Renault would have to pack the Koleos with features to keep it competitive in the current market. The cabin look and equipment list would need to be updated, along with the addition of features such as Level-2 ADAS, ventilated and powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a higher-definition infotainment screen, a powered tailgate, a fully-digital driver’s display, and more.

Prior to its discontinuation, the QM6 was offered with a 2.0-litre petrol engine as standard. Gearbox options included a CVT and a 6-speed manual. Moreover, it was also offered with a 4WD drivetrain.

New Renault SUV – Expected Launch & Pricing

This particular model was replaced by the Grand Koleos in the Korean market. So if launched in India, we would be getting a 2-year-old product. The motive of the test mule is still unknown, and we can’t make any definitive judgment about it. However, after looking at Renault’s plan for India, we can make an educated guess and expect a launch by late 2026.

When the Koleos was sold in 2012, it competed against bigger SUVs like the Fortuner and Santa Fe. If re-launched, it would sit lower on the price range. Expect it to be priced around Rs 35 lakh to Rs 40 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
