India is the third-largest automotive market in the world, with nearly 2.8 crore vehicles registered every year. How Does This Challans Propose?

The automated system, such as CCTV cameras, traffic signal violation cameras, or speed cameras, detects any offence and generates a challan (e-challan) within 3 days. Once you are notified of any possible challan, it is expected to be paid or contested with documented evidence within 45 days.

Consequences Of Not Paying Fines:

If you delay paying the pending traffic fines, the official portal will display your vehicle as “not to be transacted”. This means your vehicle is subject to some legal restriction. Action is not limited to your vehicle; you also face consequences. The licence of the vehicle’s owner will also be displayed as “not to be transacted” on the portals. Does portal status matter much? This negative flagging will block all services related to the vehicle’s registration certificate and driver’s license. Renewals and transfers can be made until the dues are cleared. Strict measures must be taken against vehicles with multiple unpaid fines. Constant or serious traffic rule offenders are also to be punished. In these cases, both the vehicle’s RC and the Driver’s Licence will be suspended.
More than 60% of the challans issued to the Indians still remain unpaid. To change this, the government is considering implementing this rule. If you have any pending challans, this might be a reminder to clear them right away.
