New Toyota Fortuner Spotted Testing

The Fortuner has not gotten major changes since 2016, but now we could finally see its much-needed update. This is the first time the next-gen Toyota Fortuner has been spotted, and it has understandably excited many people. 

A camouflaged test mule has been spotted in Thailand. Despite the heavy camouflage, it is difficult to confirm whether it is a Fortuner. But the dimensions and design language seem very similar to those of the current Fortuner. Its slim taillights, upright stance and butchy profile are quite recognisable.

Speculation suggests that the next-gen Fortuner will be based on the new Hilux (which has been unveiled for global markets). This helps give us an idea about what we can expect from the next-gen Toyota SUV.

Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner Looks 

The outgoing model has been a huge success in India, and Toyota would refrain from mixing up the recipe much. The overall stance and profile will remain similar, as seen in the spy shot, but it will adopt some elements from the new Hilux. Some aesthetic changes we expect include slimmer, sharper headlights and taillights, along with a more aggressive grille. You can get a basic idea of what it would look like by looking at the new Hilux. 

The cabin will see a drastic change. The outdated cabin of the present would be gone, and replaced with the one seen on the new Hilux. This change would be much-needed, as the outgoing Fortuner’s cabin looks ancient compared to rivals.

Some features we could see on the next-gen Fortuner include a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, Level-2 ADAS, ventilated and powered front seats, a full-digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and a sunroof. 

Under the engine bay, the changes will be minimal. The same 2.7-litre petrol (164bhp & 245 Nm) and 2.8-litre diesel (201bhp & 500Nm) are expected to be offered on the next-gen Fortuner. It will also be offered with a 48V mild-hybrid powertrain. Furthermore, Toyota has big plans for the Hilux in global markets, such as the introduction of a hydrogen-powered, strong-hybrid, and EV version of the pickup truck. However, it is doubtful that we will see these powertrain options on the Indian-spec Fortuner.

Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner – Expected Price & Launch

The Fortuner is by no means an affordable car, and its pricing is expected to rise further with the updates. The outgoing model costs between Rs 41.72 and 61.40 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai), and we could see a hike of around Rs 1-2 lakh, especially if the next-gen Fortuner gets amenities like ADAS, panoramic sunroof, etc. 

This spy shot has many people eager for its launch date, and we expect that it could be launched by late 2026 to early 2027. It is quite easy to predict that the next-gen Fortuner will be a success, but only time will tell the extent of its success. Can it be a worthy successor for the outgoing Fortuner?
