New VW 7-Seater Launched!

Volkswagen have unveiled its new flagship SUV a long time ago, and now it has finally been launched. The German automaker was pretty quiet throughout 2025 but has bigger plans for 2026 with the launch of the all-new Tayron R-Line.
The Tayron R-Line has been launched at a price of Rs 56.16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), and the bookings have already begun. You can choose from a range of 7 colour schemes – Ultra Violet Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect, Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic and Nightshade Blue Metallic. So let’s take a look at what the Tayron R-Line has to offer.

Looks & Interiors

The Tayron adopts the design language from the latest generation of Volkswagen SUVs, and you may mistake it for the Tiguan on first glance. The slim LED strip connecting the Matrix headlights and the sleek body would remind you of other VW SUVs, like the ID.4 and the Tiguan R-Line. You also get an illuminated red VW badge to demonstrate that it is an R-Line SUV. The Tayron is a handsome-looking SUV that can definitely turn some heads, especially in Violet Metallic.
As for the dimensions, it is almost 4.8m long, which is quite beneficial for cabin practicality. You get three rows of seating and 345 litres of bootspace when the 3rd row is up. This boot space expands to an impressive 885 litres with the third row down.
The overall build quality of the interiors is top-notch and exactly what you expect from a German car. You get an excess of soft-touch materials across the cabin to make your money’s worth. The only major niggle with the cabin is the lack of physical climate control buttons, since all those controls are integrated into the giant infotainment display. You do get a rotary knob to control a few functions, but it still feels like an overkill of minimalism. Luckily, you get physical steering-mounted buttons, so all hope is not lost.

Powertrain –

This is a bit of a letdown for diesel lovers, as the Tayron R-Line comes with a 2.0-litre TSI engine as standard. The petrol engine produces 202 bhp & 320 Nm of torque, and is mated to Volkswagen’s fabled 7-speed DSG gearbox. This powertrain configuration makes for a thrilling drive. In fact, the Tayron can touch the 0-100kmph mark in 7.3s and tops out at 224 kmph. Moreover, the Tayron R-Line comes with Volkswagen’s 4Motion (AWD) drivetrain as standard. If the market demands it, we could also see a TDI offered in the near future.
The Tayron R-Line seems like the perfect package on paper. It has all the right tools like features, looks, power, pricing and brand value, but can it take on the mighty Toyota Fortuner? Let us know your thoughts below.
