Volkswagen Polo Launched!

We already know that Volkswagen will be unveiling the Taigun facelift on the 9th of April, and this launch comes as a huge surprise. However, it isn’t as surprising when you remember that Volkswagen had officially announced that it would be launching a hatchback this year. Moreover, key details about the next-gen Polo had been revealed a few days ago.

Volkswagen has launched the Polo at a shocking price of Rs 7 lakh, and the top variant can go up to Rs 20 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It has been launched with 5 variants: Trendline, Comfortline, Highline, GT, and the iconic GTi. This means it will compete with other premium hatchbacks like the Swift and Baleno. But is it worthy of its badge? Let us find out!

VW Polo Launched – Powertrain

The rumours suggested that the Polo would be back as an EV, but don’t worry, as the fabled 1.0-litre TSI engine is back. And this time around, the numbers are much more substantial at 137 bhp & 201 Nm. The 7-speed DSG also returns with the Polo.
The 1.0-litre TSI is only available with the Highline and GT trims, while lower variants are offered with a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine (82 bhp & 120 Nm) mated to a 5-speed manual.
The GTI was offered as an import with the predecessor, but now you can get the 3-door from the very start. Unfortunately, it doesn’t get the 1.8-litre TSI, but it does get the 1.0-litre TSI with better performance figures of 167 bhp and 269 Nm.

Features

One niggle with the old Polo was the outdated interiors, but that is no longer the case as the new version comes with features like –
- Panoramic sunroof
- Level-1 ADAS
- Front ventilated seats
- Powered driver’s seat
- Rain-sensing wipers
- 360-degree parking camera
- Electrically-adjustable ORMs with auto-fold
- 10.25-inch infotainment screen (7-inch on lower variants)
- 10.1-inch digital driver’s display (4-inch TFT on lower variants)
This list of features is pretty impressive, and it makes little sense to buy SUVs like the Nexon and Venue over it.
