New-Gen Toyota Hilux – Will Fortuner Get The Same Update?

Toyota has given the Hilux an all-round update – from in and out. On the outside, the model continues to carry its tough look, but with a new uniquely styled grille, new bumpers, sleek headlamps housing LED DRLs. The interiors are kept simple, yet including some premium features like – wireless charging, 12.3-inch free-standing infotainment touchscreen, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, Panoramic sunroof, multi-terrain monitor and ADAS.

Another major announcement was that this rugged Toyota will even have its all-electric version. This major update is made for the global markets, the electric version of Hilux is unlikely to make its way to India. The ICE model will be powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine producing 204bhp & 500Nm. The engine will be an improvised version of the current mill, and in return it is expected to deliver 7.5percent more efficiency in the run.

What About The Fortuner?

The Fortuner and Hilux share the same platform and powertrain setup — the only major difference being the SUV’s closed rear section versus the Hilux’s flatbed. This means the upcoming Fortuner is expected to inherit much of the Hilux’s new design language and features.
We expect the next-gen Fortuner to bring several enhancements to its exterior and interior. While the exterior may closely resemble the new Hilux, the cabin will likely see major upgrades in comfort and convenience, such as a 12.3-inch floating infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital cluster, wireless charging, ADAS, and possibly even a panoramic sunroof.
Talking about the powertrain, the improved version of the 2.8-litre diesel engine is expected to be carried over to the updated Fortuner. So, with this the Fortuner will also offer a better fuel efficiency.

Launch Timeline

The new Hilux might debut in India by the end of this year or early 2026. However, the Fortuner might take some more time. We expect the updated SUV to be launched by the second half of 2026. With this update, the Fortuner’s prices might be hiked by up to Rs 1 lakh depending on variants.
