New Toyota SUV Launch

We are talking about the Urban Cruiser EV. This is the latest and biggest change to the Urban Cruiser lineup. This will be Toyota’s first-ever EV in India, and it is set for launch tomorrow. The Urban Cruiser EV would be another product of the Maruti Suzuki-Toyota partnership, like the Hyryder, Taisor, Glanza and Rumion. It shares the Heartect-e platform with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara.

What’s To Expect?

The Urban Cruiser EV is already on sale in global markets, which gives us an insight into what to expect from the Indian-spec. The Urban Cruiser EV uses the same platform as the e Vitara, and it shows. From the side profile, you would need a magnifying glass to spot the differences from the e Vitara, and the same goes for the rear, where you get connected LED taillights. However, the differences are more substantial in the front, where you get sleeker headlights and a revised front-end.
On the inside, the Urban Cruiser looks premium. As for the features, you get ventilated front seats, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, powered front seats, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, etc.

Powertrain

This is the Urban Cruiser’s biggest talking point. The Urban Cruiser will be offered with 2 packs: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The 49 kWh battery pack powers a 144 bhp motor, and the 61 kWh battery powers a 177 bhp motor. Also, the 61 kWh battery pack has a decent claimed range of 543 km. You can expect the same powertrain to be offered on the e Vitara as well.

Expected Price

We expect the pricing range to start at Rs 19 lakh and go up to Rs 25 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). This means that it would compete against the Creta electric and the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. Furthermore, the competition is also set to increase with the imminent launch of the Sierra EV.
