New Fortuner Rival – What’s Coming?

If you are our daily reader, you would know about an SUV which we had covered a spotted story for. Yes, the premium 7-seater SUV from Kia, Sorento. The model will soon be launched in the country, where sources suggest its debut in 2026. It will compete with the likes of Skoda Kodiaq, upcoming VW Tayron, MG Gloster and the one and only Toyota Fortuner.

But unlike the Fortuner, the Sorento is not known for its rugged nature, but it is one of the premium models in Kia’s lineup. To make it more clear, as Santa Fe is to Hyundai, the Sorento will be to Kia. So, what do we expect from the model?

Upcoming Kia Sorento – What To Expect

Kia is already selling its Fortuner rival in the international markets. And to be clear, the SUV looks huge – the overall design of this model matches its sibling’s designs, and it too commands a good road presence. To say, Kia has done well in-terms of its looks.

The interiors offer a good cabin space with leatherette upholstery and the feature list includes a 14-way power driver’s seat, 10-way power passenger seats, a heads-up display, a wireless charging port, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, etc. The list of features for the lower trims may not be as extensive, but you still get all the necessities as standard.

Talking about the powertrains, the US spec model comes with an array of engine options including a plug-in hybrid, conventional hybrid, a 2.5L Petrol and a 2.2L Diesel. The Sorento comes with an automatic gearbox as standard. But there are two automatic gearboxes to choose from: an 8-speed DCT and a 6-speed AMT.

Given its size, it is pretty apparent that the Sorento comes with AWD drivetrain options. Unfortunately, AWD will only be equipped on the high-end variants, with the lower trims getting FWD as standard.

With Kia’s future plans to showcase the hybrid powertrain in India, the chances of the Sorento being launched with a hybrid option are very high. But India might miss the chances of having a PHEV version of Sorento.
