After years of anticipation, Hyundai has finally launched the new-gen Venue in India. The new-gen not only brought new design, features & gearbox, but is also based on an all-new platform. Unlike the old Venue, which was underpinned by the K2 platform, the new-gen is based on the brand’s K1 platform. It is the same platform that also underpins other Hyundai-Kia cars like the Exter & the Syros. Now, for starters, it would mean that the new K1 platform has been used primarily for space. Well, that is one of the reasons for sure! However, the K1 platform is also likely to enhance the Venue’s overall safety. But how?

We have already mentioned that the new K1 platform also underpins the Kia Syros. Talking of which, the Kia SUV received a full 5-star safety rating at the Bharat NCAP in April 2025. Breaking it down further, the Syros scored 30.21 out of 32 for adult safety & 44.42 out of 49 for child safety. But will sharing the platform alone help Venue to score a similar safety rating? Well, even if we believe it does, we should also consider that Hyundai has increased the Venue’s overall strength. At the launch event, Hyundai confirmed that the new-gen Venue is built with 71% high-strength tensile steel, making it 71% more rigid than the previous model. Also, it gets an updated safety feature list like Level 2 ADAS, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, traction modes, front parking sensors & 360-degree camera, among others. But why safer than the Nexon?

Why Safer Than Nexon?

To take on a strong competitor like the Nexon, Hyundai will try to crash-test the new-gen Venue very soon. Tata Nexon was the first Indian SUV to score 5-star safety ratings at the Global NCAP. In October 2024, it was tested yet again – this time at Bharat NCAP. And it was no surprise that the SUV scored 5-star safety ratings, with 29.41 out of 32 for adult safety & 43.83 out of 49 for child safety. So, although it has a full 5-star safety rating on its name, the fact remains that the Syros has marginally better adult & child safety ratings. And now with a similar platform & enhanced safety features, Venue could score similar ratings as the Syros – or even better!
