Renault has started 2026 by bringing back the iconic “Duster” name. Interestingly, the French manufacturer’s plans don’t end there. A rumour has surfaced on the internet that a new sub-4m SUV is in the works, and it’s being called the “mini-Duster”. So what exactly is the “Mini-Duster”?

Another Sub 4m SUV?

With the Duster’s official launch due in March, currently, Renault has only one SUV in its lineup – the Kiger. The Kiger faces tough competition from the Fronx, Venue, Sonet and the Nexon, and thus never really got a grip in this competitive sub-4 m SUV bracket. And Renault thinks that a mini-Duster can be the mantra for success. In a recent interview, Renault brand’s CEO and Chief Growth Officer, Fabrice Cambolive, suggested that the possibility of a mini-Duster was a “good idea”.
The issue with the Kiger is that it doesn’t stand out amongst its rivals. People appreciate the boxy stance of the Venue, Sonet and others over the Kiger’s crossover look. And thus, this new compact SUV will sport the boxy and rugged stance of the Duster.

New Mini-Duster – Expected Features and Specifications

To compete with the Tata Nexon, Renault would need to offer a comprehensive equipment list on the mini-Duster. We expect features such as wireless charging, ventilated front seats, a digital driver’s display, a 360-degree camera, an ADAS suite, and much more.
The powertrain options are expected to be shared with the Kiger. We could see the mini-Duster offered with a 1.0-litre turbo, mated to either a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, or a CVT.

New Mini-Duster – Expected Launch and Pricing

You would have to wait quite some time to buy this mini-Duster. Renault is currently planning to launch the 7-seater version of the Duster, but for this compact SUV, we will have to wait until late 2026 or early 2027.
We expect the mini-Duster to be priced between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The mini-Duster would be Renault’s second attempt at the sub-4m compact SUV. It has been a long time since we have seen Renault be this enthusiastic in the market. Do you think that the new range of Dusters could mark Renault’s comeback in India?
