Royal Enfield Hunter Rival Spotted!

Since the introduction of the Hunter 350, there has been no direct rival to this entry-level RE motorcycle. However, we could soon see that change as a potential Hunter rival has been spotted. It is none other than the Triumph Speed T4. Now you may say that this bike already exists and is in a different price bracket altogether. However, the bike that was spotted is most likely the upcoming Speed T350, which will feature Triumph’s downsized 350cc engine.

It may be hard to believe that this is a different motorcycle, considering the bike looks identical to the existing Speed T4. The test mule that has been spotted is completely undisguised, sporting the black and grey colour scheme. The fit and finish, as well as all the design elements, are the same as the existing T4, hinting there won’t be any cosmetic changes to the 350 model. But why will it be a Hunter 350 rival now?

One of the reasons we say that this could be a Hunter 350 rival is because Triumph has ensured it gets a more “Thumper” character, much like every Royal Enfield, with plenty of low-end torque and grunt, while keeping the top-end out of focus. Moreover, this is the entry-level Triumph and is actually a great value-for-money proposition. And with the downsizing of the engine to 350cc, Triumph will be able to price the bike quite aggressively. We can expect Triumph to price this bike around Rs 2.20 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), which won’t be out of reach for most potential Hunter 350 buyers.

Additionally, the Triumph will still offer better power and torque figures on paper and impress many with the exquisite build quality. The current Speed T4 makes less power and torque than the Speed 400. We can expect to see a similar engine tune with the 350cc mill. The downsized engine is expected to produce around 27bhp and 33Nm of torque. This is still more than the Hunter 350. The bike gets all the basic features like dual-channel ABS, all-LED lighting, traction control, and much more. Triumph is expected to launch the downsized 350cc Speed, Speed T350 and Scrambler sometime next month. It will be interesting to see how these bikes fare against the rivals.
