New Honda SUV
Honda may have had considerable success in the sedan segment with the City, Amaze, Accord and Civic, but it has yet to capture the SUV segment. The Elevate, WRV and CRV were valiant efforts but not enough. And now Honda plans to change this with the new ZR-V.

The ZR-V is already on sale in global markets, and it has now received an update. This version is also expected to be launched in India. When launched in India, it will sit above the Honda Elevate in the SUV hierarchy. But what’s special about the ZR-V, and should you be excited? Let’s find out.

Upcoming Honda SUV – Looks & features

It sports the contemporary design language of most Honda cars. The look is understated and not over-the-top like many current SUVs. The Honda fanbase would be rather pleased with the ZR-V. It is a 4.56m-long car, which means the interior is more than spacious. Despite these dimensions, the boot space seems quite modest at 370 litres.
The cabin is well laid out, like most Honda models. It is practical and ergonomic, and given that it’s a Honda, you can expect great build quality as well. The global spec ZRV features an ADAS suite, a 9-inch infotainment screen, a 10.2-inch fully digital driver’s display, a powered tailgate, powered front seats, a panoramic glass roof, etc.

Powertrain

The ZR-V will follow Honda’s ambition for hybrid technology. The Global spec is offered with a 2.0-litre petrol engine, mated to a hybrid system. This powertrain churns out 182 bhp and 315 Nm of torque together. This power is delivered via an e-CVT gearbox to all 4 wheels. You would notice the benefits of the hybrid system when you accelerate, as it has a claimed 0-100kmph time of almost 8 seconds. And to make things better, it has a claimed fuel economy of around 21kmpl. When you factor in fuel efficiency and performance, it sounds like pure delight.

Upcoming Honda SUV – Expected Pricing & Launch

On paper, the ZRV shows great promise. But here is what gets a bit gloomy. The ZRV will be launched as a CBU unit, which means pricing will be on the higher side, at around Rs 55 lakh and Rs 60 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). At this price, it would compete against SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner and other 7-seater SUVs.
The ZRV is expected to go on sale in Japan this month, with the launch in India coming a bit later this year. We could see it on Indian roads by late 2026 or early 2027. Honda has been inactive in the Indian market, and the ZRV will be a move to freshen things up.
