New XUV7XO Rival Spotted!

A 7-seater SUV with great fuel-efficiency figures? That seems like the recipe for success, and now one such SUV has been spotted testing. This SUV could give the mighty XUV7XO a run for its money. As we reported a few days ago, MG is preparing to launch its new SUV, the Starlight 560. The naming may change upon launch, but we do have in-depth information about it.

A test mule of the Starlight 560 has been spotted testing on Indian roads. While the exteriors have been well-concealed, we can get an overall look at the SUV. It sports a boxy, upright stance to mimic an SUV’s look. The Starlight’s proportions are huge, giving it a solid road presence.

Mahindra 7XO Rival – Features And Specifications

Since this model is already on sale in global markets, we have all the technical details needed. As for dimensions, the Starlight matches the 7XO evenly. But where it outpaces its rival is in the wheelbase. With the starlight, you get a 60mm longer wheelbase, which means the cabin space and practicality would be immense.

When launched in India, we expect features such as an ADAS suite, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, and much more.

Mahindra 7XO Rival – Powertrain

This is where things get interesting. The Starlight 560 won’t get a conventional ICE powertrain option. Instead, we expect it to be offered as a PHEV and BEV. The PHEV variant will be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 20.5 kWh battery pack (197 bhp & 230 Nm combined. The PHEV can travel up to 100 km on electric power alone, and with the petrol motor, it can travel up to 1,100 km on a full tank.

On the other hand, the electric variant will be offered with a a 56.7kWh battery pack (136 bhp & 200 Nm). The claimed range for the EV is 500 km, and it takes 20 mins to charge it rom 30% to 80% using fast charging.

Mahindra 7XO Rival – Expected Launch & Pricing

If launched with the plug-in hybrid powertrain, it would be the cheapest PHEV in the market. It will be a big challenge for MG to price it aggressively, especially if it wants to take over the XUV7XO’s and XEV9S’s market. We expect MG to price the Starlight 560 PHEV around Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). For the EV, we expect it to be priced between Rs 25 lakh to Rs 35 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

With the test mule being spotted, it suggests that we could see the Starlight coming into production sooner than later. Speculation suggests that the Starlight 560 could be launched by late 2026 or early 2027.
