New XUV 7XO Rival Spotted Testing!

JSW has been in the news quite often in recent weeks as it prepares to launch cars under its own brand. But this does not mean that it would ignore its current tie-up with MG Motors. And now, a new MG SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads, suggesting a launch could be very soon.

The test mule we have here is the Wuling Starlight 560, which is sold in Chinese markets and will be sold in India under the MG badge. Thanks to its 4.7m length and 2.8m wheelbase, it looks like a mix between an SUV and an MPV. Moreover, the overall design language is pretty conventional and lacks the aggressive elements found in other 7-Seater SUVs like the Scorpio N or the XUV7XO.

New XUV 7XO Rival – Expected Features & Specifications

Since it is already on sale in global markets, we have a thorough idea of what the interiors would look like. And, as with all MG cars, the interior would be the main USP. You can spot leatherette upholstery and an abundance of high-quality materials inside, adding to the premium feel. Not to mention, due to its long wheelbase (60mm longer than the 7XO), the interiors are as practical and spacious as they could get.

Some of the features that the Starlight 560 could get are –

  • Level-2 ADAS
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Ventilated and powered front seats
  • Fully digital instrument cluster
  • 360-degree camera
  • 12.8-inch infotainment screen
  • Wireless Charging

Powertrain

This is where MG wishes to change the game. As per industry sources, the Starlight will be offered as a PHEV, making it the first in its segment, and as a BEV.  The expected powertrain options include –

  • 1.5-litre petrol engine mated to a 20.5kWh pack (197 bhp & 230 Nm)
  • 56.7kWh battery pack (136 bhp & 200 Nm)

The PHEV can travel up to 100 km on electric power and up to 1100 km on a single charge. Furthermore, thanks to its PHEV powertrain, the Starlight would be among the most fuel-efficient SUVs in the segment. On the other hand, the BEV boasts a claimed range of 500km and takes 20 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% using a fast charger.

New XUV 7XO Rival – Expected Pricing & Launch

It will be interesting to see how MG prices the Starlight 560. Being a PHEV/EV, it would be really difficult to keep it competitive with the 7XO. We could see the PHEV being priced between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 32 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), while the EV version could cost between Rs 25 lakh and Rs 35 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

The frequency of its test mules being spotted has increased in recent weeks, suggesting the launch is pretty close. We expect the Starlight 560 to be launched by the end of this year or in the early months of 2027.
