Hyundai Venue Vs Tata Nexon

Hyundai launched its new-gen Venue a couple of days ago, priced from Rs 9.27 Lakh to Rs 18.93 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Along with this update, Hyundai has offered a slew of new features and safety equipment with this model. On the other hand, we have India’s best-selling SUV, the Nexon, which has been a very popular choice for new car buyers, offering a slew of features and a safe cabin. So which one of these is better?

Design

Hyundai has gone all out with the Venue and given it a fresh new look on the outside as well as inside. On the outside, the new Venue now gets a unique headlight design with a DRL lightstrip, fresh alloy wheel design, a connected LED taillight and much more. Front and rear bumpers now look sturdy and purposeful, while the chunky roof rails add to the rugged off-road design. Inside, the Venue feels like a different car altogether. The dashboard layout is quite neat and well laid out. When compared to the previous Venue, the new gen feels more premium, thanks to the new dual-tone blue-on-grey cabin theme. The steering wheel, the screens, and the centre console come together very nicely, adding to the premiumness of the cabin. These new changes have drastically changed the design of the Venue, and more people will likely find it quite attractive.

On the contrary, the Nexon has now been around for a couple of years, and it still looks quite good. Tata has done a great job with the front end of the Nexon. However, a few are not fans of the rear design of the Nexon. However, on the inside, the Nexon feels like a premium SUV. The backlit two-spoke steering wheel feels quite modern and premium, and the layout of the dash is quite clean. Tata is popular for its special editions, and the recently launched Red-Dark edition of the Nexon uplifts the interior very well. That said, the Venue and the Nexon are good-looking SUVs. However, the Venue does look slightly better thanks to its fresh design and premium interior.

Features – Hyundai Venue Vs Tata Nexon

In this segment, manufacturers get quite competitive when it comes to features. With the new Venue, Hyundai haven’t held back. Hyundai has thrown everything at the Venue, and the SUV is now one of the most feature-rich in its segment. Features include dual 12.3-inch curved screens, ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat, traction modes, drive modes and the list goes on. However, the Venue only gets an electric sunroof, instead of a panoramic sunroof offered by its rivals.

On the features front, the Nexon is one of the best in the game. The Nexon gets features like a panoramic sunroof, an air purifier, ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, and the list goes on. That said, it is safe to say that both the SUVs are equally matched in terms of features.

Safety

One of the most important aspects of buying a new car now is safety. Hyundai has worked quite a bit on safety and has offered a slew of new safety features. The new Venue is now built around Hyundai’s K1 platform, on which the Kia Syros is based. Not only has this platform allowed for a more spacious cabin, but it has also improved the safety of the new Venue. The Korean brand claims that the new-gen Venue is 71% more rigid, allowing for better safety. Additionally, the Venue now gets a Level 2 ADAS suite, a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, 6 airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, all 4 disc brakes, an electronic parking brake with auto hold and much more.

The Nexon is one of the safest cars in its segment, thanks to Tata’s rigid chassis and safety equipment. Tata recently added ADAS to the Nexon as part of an update, ensuring more safety. The Nexon has received a 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP, making it a dependable option in terms of safety. It also gets safety features like six airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system, a blind spot monitor, and much more. That said, the Venue is yet to be tested for a safety rating from either BNCAP or GNCAP. However, the Tata Nexon has always been a safe option in the market. It will be interesting to see how the Venue fares in the test.

Powertrain – Hyundai Venue Vs Tata Nexon

Both SUVs offer a slew of powertrain options. The new Venue gets 3 engine options: a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine (118bhp & 172Nm), a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine (82bhp & 115Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (114bhp & 250Nm). In the new Venue, Hyundai has now offered a new 6-speed AT with the diesel engine alongside a 6-speed MT. The NA petrol engine is only offered with a 5-speed MT, and the turbo petrol engine gets a 6-speed MT and a 7-speed DCT option. These engine options remain the same as the previous-gen Venue and perform pretty well. However, the Venue misses out on India’s favourite type of engine, a CNG powertrain.

On the other hand, Tata might just have the upper hand here with its multiple engine options. Tata offers 3 engine options too: a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine (118bhp & 170Nm), a 1.2-litre turbo petrol CNG engine (99bhp & 170Nm) and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (113bhp & 260Nm). One of the reasons people prefer the Nexon is due to its dual-cylinder CNG technology. The dual-cylinder CNG tech helps save space and allows for better boot space. Tata offers four gearbox options with the three engines: a 5-speed MT, a 6-speed MT, a 6-speed AMT and a 7-speed DCT. That said, as Tata offers the CNG option, the Nexon does have an upper hand in the powertrain aspect.

Pricing
The Tata Nexon carries a price tag ranging from Rs 8.44 Lakh to Rs 17.06 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). On the other hand, the Venue carries a price tag ranging from Rs 9.27 Lakh to Rs 18.93 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Now, it may seem that the Venue’s top model is quite expensive. However, due to the addition of an automatic transmission with the diesel engine, the prices seem high.
So, which of these two SUVs would you choose?
