Its Not The Iconic Diesel This Time!

With strict pollution norms, it is difficult for brands to continue offering Diesel in 2026. Renault is no expectation. At the latest unveiling of the Duster, the brand showcased only petrol engine options, with no sign of a diesel engine launch. We definitely miss the earlier Dusters with the diesel powerhouse for its torque and highway performance. But Renult have brought an alternative to this engine. Curious about this new powertrain??

Renault Hybrid Technology:

No, it’s not something like the smart or intelligent electric hybrid technology in the Marutis. Renault has managed to combine these technologies. So, is it better than anything else on the market? Well, that remains a question for the future as we get our hands on the new Duster Hybrid. Renault has given the Duster a unique powertrain that might be confusing for many of you, but it’s not! Here is a simple breakdown of this new technology:

Renault’s E-Tech:

Renault Duster features the ‘E-tech’ strong hybrid technology. This includes a 1.8-litre NA petrol engine and a 1.4kWh battery pack, producing a combined output of 160bhp and 172Nm. When paired with the 8-speed gearbox, which is a dedicated hybrid transmission. What’s special about this powertrain is that it features two electric motors, unlike other hybrids, which feature only one.

Why two motors? One of the two motors is the primary motor, which can drive the car in EV mode. The other motor has multiple functions. This motor helps with silent starts, acts as a generator to recharge the battery, and serves as a gear synchronizer.

Duster uses the dog-clutch gearbox technology, which is famous for being noisy and unrefined when compared to other gearboxes. To solve this problem, the secondary motors step in to help smooth gear shifts. Making the gearshifting smoother.
With that said, will you get the Hybrid Duster or the Diesel Hyundai Creta?
