KTM 390 Adventure R Launched

The KTM 390 Adventure R has been silently launched at Rs 3.78 Lakh (ex-showroom). This means that it is Rs 19,000 cheaper than the standard 390 Adventure. Surprisingly, the Adventure R in international markets is the top-spec version, but in India, KTM has attempted to make it a value-for-money offering. Bookings for this have commenced at a token cost of Rs 1,999. This means that the 390 Adventure R will sit between the 390 Adventure X and the 390 Adventure S. So, what’s different with the 390 Adventure R?

While the 390 Adventure gets tubeless tyres, the Adventure R gets tube-type spoke wheels. This is one of the ways that KTM has managed to price the ADV aggressively. The 390 Adventure R prioritises off-road performance and gets 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels (compared to the 21/17-inch setup with the standard variant). Furthermore, the 390 Adventure R gets longer travel WP Apex suspension with 230 mm of travel at both the front and rear. The seat height has also been raised to 870 mm, giving it a ground clearance of 272 mm.

KTM has not yet revealed the features that the R version will get. However, we expect it to get features such as switchable ABS, a bi-directional quickshifter, traction control, cruise control, a 5-inch TFT display, and much more. The powertrain remains identical with the same 399 cc single-cylinder engine (45 bhp and 39 Nm). This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
