Tata Sierra Petrol – Comparison

Below is a chart of 11 SUVs, including the Sierra, with engine capacity & power figures. For Maruti, we have opted for its strong hybrid powertrain, as it lacks turbo units. Also, note that we have only included the automatic gearbox as an option, since it is the only one available with the Sierra!

So, the Sierra has really impressed us with the new petrol engine. It is indeed one of the most refined engines Tata has ever built. Also, the 6-speed AT does a fine job of keeping the engine in the rev band. It feels smooth & mostly silent, until you go hard on the throttle. The overall NVH levels are also pretty good, and you will enjoy driving the Sierra with this very engine. However, the only downside is that this engine drinks a lot of fuel. In our test, we had no time to check the mileage. But in real-life scenarios, you can expect 9 to 11 kmpl in the city & up to 15 kmpl on highways.

Apart from the turbo petrol engine, the Sierra also comes with a 1.5-litre diesel & a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. Among these, we got to drive the diesel-equipped Sierra. Did that engine impress us? Well, it is the same unit that does its duties for the Nexon & the Curvv. However, for Sierra, this comes paired with a new 6-speed AT gearbox & produces higher torque at 280Nm. But overall, it is not the engine that will put a smile on your face. Yes, it drives well, but the NVH levels are nowhere near the petrol unit. What about the NA petrol? Unfortunately, we did not get to experience this engine yet & are expecting Tata to provide it in a later stage.
