There have been several news articles coming out suggesting Maruti’s new product. Codenamed as ‘YMC’, this new model will be a 7-seater MPV, a premium version of the Ertiga. Another thing here is, Toyota will also be looking to have a pie of share in this, and will possibly launch this model and position it above the Rumion in its lineup.

Just to confirm, this model doesn’t have anything to take away from the rumours of Grand Vitara and Hyryder 7-seater that were revolving around. This new 7-seater model will totally be new, and electric! Yes, this model will be developed on the Heartect-e platform, currently underpinned by the Maruti e Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric. However, with this model, Maruti will explore the electric MPV space and compete with the Kia Carens Clavis EV, BYD e Max7 and others.

What To Expect From This 7-Seater

Maruti has always considered 2 things with the Ertiga – good space and affordable price. While we talk about the price point later, we expect the upcoming 7-seater to be spacious enough to be comfortable even for the 3rd row passengers. With that, we can see a model just like e Vitara with an elongated design, welcomed with a long wheelbase.

On the design front, the test mule of this model is yet to be spotted. But we can expect a new design, with a connected treatment or even something like the e Vitara – not quite flashy but okayish. On the inside, Maruti can carry the elements from the e Vitara along with the features. The design of Toyota’s unit will differ from the Maruti’s one, the details of it are scarce at present.

Features that we expect include – dual screen setup (for infotainment and instrumentation), sunroof, wireless charging, ventilated seats, Level 2 ADAS, 7-airbags (6-airbags as standard), 360-degree camera, AC vents dedicated for the third row and more. Just like the current status of other Maruti cars, we expect this model to offer better safety. Toyota’s MPV will also carry kind-of same suite of features, unless Toyota thinks to offer more to make it a better deal.

Similar to the Maruti e Vitara, this 7-seater is expected to come powered with two battery pack units – a 49kWh and a 61kWh. Now, the range on this model is expected to be less compared to the e Vitara.

Launch & Pricing

Regarding the launch and pricing, it was earlier said that Maruti will launch its MPV by September 2026, followed by its Toyota version. However, as we have seen the delayed launch of e Vitara, the September launch might be pushed forward and we expect this model to be launched by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

Its too early to have a guess at pricing, however, we expect this 7-seater to be priced between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 26 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
