Maruti Suzuki launched the Fronx in early 2023 and became an instant favourite with Indian customers. It has maintained noteworthy sales figures for a long time. It managed to sell more units than the prominent Baleno and Tata Punch in October 2025. The Fronx has managed to do that without receiving any significant updates since its launch, and Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch one.
Key Changes

The sloping roofline is the focal point of Fronx’s design language. Fresh looks and a low stance continue to attract customers in large numbers, despite hindering overall practicality. The visual identity will be carried forward in the facilitated version. Maruti wouldn’t want to change the outgoing recipe.
The outgoing Fronx offers a solid feature list but omits ADAS, an electric sunroof, electronic parking brakes, and rain-sensing wipers. It also misses out on luxurious amenities, such as a rear armrest and ventilated seats. The addition of such features seems improbable for lower variants, but they can try to offer them in the higher models, like the Alpha.
The cabin may resemble the one from the newly-launched Victoris since Maruti is known for sharing parts across its range.
Updates in Powertrain

The most significant change is expected to be in the engine options. Maruti Suzuki is developing a series hybrid technology. The strong-hybrid systems for the Victoris, Grand Vitara, and Invicto were acquired from Toyota, and Maruti has now decided to develop one domestically. This system will be equipped in the upcoming Fronx. The 1.2L Petrol engine, which is also used in the WagonR, will be the choice for mating with this new system.
The Fronx will be the first Maruti car to use this new technology. Unlike the conventional hybrid powertrains, where the battery assists the ICE unit, a series hybrid platform would use the petrol engines to power the electrical motor, which then propels the wheels.
Fronx’s Korean rivals, the Hyundai Exeter and i10 Nios, use a dual-cylinder CNG system, which improves their practicality. Maruti may introduce CNG variants with underbody tanks to offer roomier cabins and a bigger boot.
Along with a hybrid powertrain, a flex fuel variant is in the works as well. The 1.2L engine will be modified to accommodate Ethanol blends. Maruti has taken this step to abide by the Indian government’s biofuel plans.

The fan-favourite 1.0L turbo-petrol will continue to be an option with the facelift. Maruti ceased offering its smaller cars with diesel engines, and there are no evident plans for the facelift either. The model sold in Japanese and other global markets offers a more interesting powertrain, with a 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol engine and a 4WD option. With poor sales of the AWD Grand Vitara, Maruti may decide not to introduce it in the Indian market.
In terms of gearbox options, you can choose from a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, and a 6-speed Torque Convertor unit, which would be lifted from the current Fronx.
Rivals
Maruti’s vast hatchback lineup means the Fronx competes with its own family members, including the Swift, Vitara Brezza, and Baleno. It faces external competition from the Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra 3XO. Currently, Fronx sells better than all the competitors mentioned above, but that may change. The compact SUV segment is competitive, and all these manufacturers update their models annually, with new competition (Volkswagen Tera) entering the market as well.

Expected Arrival and Pricing

The Fronx flex-fuel might be on Indian roads by mid-2026. The facelift might take slightly longer to arrive in Indian markets, with a late 2026 or early 2027 launch estimated. The pricing will remain competitive, like most Maruti cars. As expected, with most facelifts, prices will rise. Lower variants will have an identical pricetag with the outgoing model, but the price surge would be greater for higher variants, especially if Maruti decides to offer the Fronx with ADAS.
