Mahindra XUV700

Mahindra XUV700 offered best-in-class performance and features when it was launched. The XUV700 was introduced with only two engine options, including a 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel. This 7-seater was a great package for someone looking for performance, safety, comfort and features. However, many XUV700 owners did have a complaint: the mileage. With a 197bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine, it will be a gas guzzler. But we might just have a solution to this problem. We came across a unique Mahindra XUV700 with India’s favourite engine – CNG. So how does it affect the performance and fuel economy? Let’s find out!

Mahindra XUV700 CNG-

The XUV700 we are referring to is the top-of-the-line AX7 variant, equipped with a retrofitted CNG kit from the Saifuel Vadodara. Traditionally, this Mahindra 7-seater features a 2-litre turbo petrol engine producing 197 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. This particular Mahindra comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox. How did they get the CNG into an XUV700?

To make this possible, the host has installed specific injectors into the engine bay, which remain hidden under the engine cover. In addition, a 12 kg CNG tank is fitted in the car’s boot. No mileage figures are specified yet. But the fuel efficiency of 13-15 kmpl for the petrol engine is expected to go up to 20-25 kg/km.

On the outside, nothing has changed; you can barely guess that it is equipped with a CNG kit. The only change you can notice is in the interiors, where the small boot is occupied by the CNG tank itself. With the CNG tank in the boot and all three rows full, you would have no space for your luggage. But you still get all the features, including a 10.25-inch dual-screen setup, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, 12-speaker Sony 3D sound, panoramic sunroof, and ventilated seats. In addition, there is the ADAS Level-2 offering.
