Mahindra XUV 5XO Expected Price 10 lakhs* Expected Launch 2027

The Mahindra nomenclature can be quite a struggle to comprehend. The range is made up of SUVs, and most of these SUVs are distributed in 3 classes- BE, XEV, and XUV. This is the easier part of the branding; it gets more difficult when you try to figure out the “XO” sub-division. Mahindra already sells the 3XO, which is based on the XUV300 and the XUV7X0, which is based on the XUV700. Mahindra also recently launched the XUV 7XO brand, Logically, the 5XO would be based on the XUV 500, but that can’t be the case here.

Exterior

This year, Mahindra showcased the Vision X concept. It is speculated that the 5XO will be based on this concept. The 5XO is based on the recently revealed NU_IQ platform. This is the platform that Mahindra plan to use for most of its upcoming SUVs. Cars with a length between 3,990mm and 4320mm will use this platform. The next-gen 3XO will be compatible with this platform since it is shorter than 4m. The 7XO is a much longer vehicle, so it won’t be able to use this platform. However, the 5XO could use this platform, and with a potential length of 4320 mm, it implies that the 5XO could be the Creta and Sierra rival.

From the concept images, the Vision X looks sleek and striking. You get sharp cuts and creases all across its body. The high ground clearance and black cladding give it some road presence. It will be interesting to see how closely Vision X would resemble the upcoming Mahindra 5XO.

Interior

Mahindra showcased the Vision X cabin. Being a concept, it looks impractical and far from realistic. The production-spec cabin could be identical to the one found on the new XEV 9S. The cabin would have a triple-screen layout, with each display being 12.3-inch. The equipment list would be comprehensive to keep up with the competition. The list would include ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, ventilated seats, powered seats, etc.

Due to its dimensions, it will be offered as a 5-seater only, but it will have plenty of cabin space, rear legroom, and boot space.

Powertrain

Since the 5XO is not a sub-4m vehicle, it is not eligible for the tax break for compact-SUVs. The norm would no longer restrict Mahindra to limiting engine capacity to 1.2L (petrol) and 1.5L (diesel). There is a possibility that we could see the higher-end 5XOs with engine options from the XUV7XO. These options would be the 2L diesel and 2.2L Petrol but with a lower performance figures.

Since this new platform can accomodate all powertrains including hybrid and electric. We could see the same with the 5XO.

Rivals

The 5XO would compete in a tough segment. If launched, it would go up against the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Tata Sierra, Tata Harrier, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. The 5XO would also compete with its big brothers, Scorpio N and XUV7X0. A few more updates are expected in this segment, with many of the outgoing cars receiving facelifts.

Expected Launch and Price

Rumours suggest that the 5XO will be launched by mid-2027. The market is going to become filled with midsized SUVs and the leader of the segment would be the vehicle that offers the best combination of features, affordability and safety.

The Mahindra 5XO would sit between the 3XO and the 7XO at around 10 lakh, and the top model could set you back 23 lakh rupees (on-road, Mumbai). The Mahindra range will be tightly packed, and the price differences between different models will be difficult to notice.
