Mahindra Vision S Spotted

Recently, a test mule was spotted testing on Indian roads. We can guess what this car could be, thanks to the Mahindra badge on the steering wheel and the overall cabin layout. It gets identical air vents, centre console layout and an upright dashboard like the Vision S concept, allowing us to identify this test mule.
Moreover, we could see that this particular model is a mid-spec variant, as the cabin lacks a digital driver’s display and leatherette seats. We can also spot a panoramic sunroof, which means you would get such a premium amenity on the middle variants as well. Some features of the test mule that catch the eye are the panoramic sunroof, physical climate control buttons, a rear centre armrest, and a headrest for the middle passenger.

On the outside, the dimensions suggest that this is a sub-4m SUV. Despite the camouflage, we can see that it closely resembles the Vision S concept unveiled a few months ago. It sports a boxy stance, along with facilities for a tail-gate-mounted spare wheel, to give it the look of a rugged SUV.
Furthermore, the model is a diesel automatic variant, as the test mule gets an AdBlue filler cap and an automatic gear lever.

Features

The Vision S will be packed with features to keep it competitive in the sub-4m segment. We expect features such as a 360-degree camera, ventilated and powered front seats, ADAS, wireless charging, a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 10.5-inch driver’s display, etc., in the production model.

Powertrain
Interestingly, Mahindra announced that the Vision S will be based on the NU_IQ platform. This platform supports petrol, diesel, hybrid, and electric powertrains, as well as AWD. This indicates that we could see this sub-4 m SUV to be offered with all the above-mentioned powertrain options. This platform will also be adopted in many upcoming Mahindra SUVs. It will be interesting to see
As mentioned before, this particular unit is a diesel-automatic. We expect it to get the same 1.5-litre turbo-diesel (115 bhp & 300 Nm) as the 3XO. Expectedly, it will also be offered with petrol options. The petrol options may include Mahindra’s 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (110 bhp & 200 Nm) and another 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (129 bhp and 230 Nm). We expect the Vision S to offer a 6-speed AT, 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT.

Expected Launch And Pricing

Mahindra announced that we will see SUVs based on the NU_IQ platform by 2027. We expect the Vision S to be the first of these SUVs. Mahindra will price it aggressively to remain competitive with rivals like the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Tata Nexon. However, we do not yet know whether the Vision S will sit alongside the 3XO in the Mahindra lineup or replace it entirely. We can expect it to be priced between Rs 9 and Rs 18 Lakhs (on-road, Mumbai).
