Mahindra Scorpio Facelift – What to Expect? » MotorOctane

The Scorpio has been a household name for quite some time. The original Scorpio, which was launched in 2002. It was the best-selling SUV in India throughout the 2000s. It contended against the Toyota Qualis, Tata Sumo and the Chevrolet Tavera in the early days and came out on top. People appreciated its rugged looks and tall stance. The Scorpio SLX variant was also Mahindra’s first-ever premium SUV and inspired its now-extensive SUV lineup.

Unfortunately, the Scorpio began showing its age as its competitors started offering twice as many features. This is when Mahindra decided to pivot and split the Scorpio into two classes: the Scorpio Classic and the Scorpio N. The Scorpio N catered to a customer who desired the looks of a modern SUV packed with the latest bells and whistles. At the same time, the Classic was meant to please its original fanbase by maintaining the original Scorpio silhouette.

Mahindra created this division in 2022, and despite no major revisions, the Scorpio N has remained competitive in the SUV segment. Recently, the Scorpio N was spotted on Indian roads with camouflage. Could a facelift be in the works by Mahindra? Here is all you need to know about the upcoming updates.

Updated Looks

The Scorpio N retains its towering stature. Not many features are visible under the camouflage, but you can expect Mahindra to give the new version a more aggressive front grille, a new alloy wheel design, and sharper headlights and taillights. Along with the updated Scorpio N, its pickup version was also spotted. The pickup used the same headlights as the Scorpio N, suggesting it will be based on the Scorpio N rather than the Classic. Mahindra will develop the pickup to launch it in global markets, such as South Africa, where it has received an impressive response.

Intriguingly, Mahindra showcased the Vision S concept not long ago. The Vision S could be the successor to the current-generation Scorpio N or another class added to the Scorpio nameplate. After a first look, you can see Mahindra were not messing around. It clearly looks like a no-nonsense off-roader ready to take on any terrain. The side-mounted jerrycans and the Defender-esque stepladder can give the Vision-S an astounding road presence. If Mahindra manage to make the next-gen Scorpio closely resemble the prototype, it could be an instant hit.

When it comes to safety, the Scorpio N doesn’t disappoint. The NCAP ratings show that it is as safe as it looks. It scored a mighty 5 stars in Global NCAP tests despite having just two airbags as standard.

Better Features

The current Scorpio misses out on many vital features, such as a 360-degree camera and ventilated seats, even in the top-end Z8L, which costs nearly 30 lakh rupees. Mahindra should include these additions in the facelifted version, since cars in the lower segments offer these features. To put it into perspective, the Hyundai Venue comes equipped with a 360-degree parking camera and is more than 10 lakh rupees cheaper. For a long time, you couldn’t get the Scorpio with ADAS, but luckily, Mahindra have finally decided to make it available on the higher models.

The outgoing Scorpio N is yet to feature the joint infotainment and driver’s display from the XUV700. These updates could be made with the next-gen Scorpio. Moreover, the next-gen Vision S showed what the next-gen Scorpio could look like from the inside. It uses a similar head unit from the XUV700 and a vibrant dual-tone colour scheme to make the cabin feel radiant.

Powertrain Updates

The outgoing model is available with a 2.2L turbo-diesel and 2.0L turbo-petrol engine. The 2.0L petrol engine produces 200 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque. Whilst the diesel engine is tuned as per the variants. Higher variants get a punchier engine capable of 172 horsepower and almost 400 Nm of torque, while the lower models have to make do with a 130 horsepower, 300 Nm engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter unit. As expected with an SUV of this size, there are 2WD and 4WD drivetrain options. The facelifted version will offer a similar powertrain and drivetrain range.

Rivals

It faces competition from the Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and its sibling, the XUV700. There will be a few additions to this competition, as the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta will receive major facelifts by next year. The return of the Sierra badge has also meant that Scorpio N will get another contender for the best-selling SUV spot.

Most of the abovementioned vehicles performed well in the NCAP tests, achieving 5 stars (except Alcazar, which received 4 stars in the Latin NCAP).

Expected Launch and Price

The Scorpio N starts at a price of 16 lakhs rupees. The top model costs a whopping 29.5 lakh rupees. This price will see a surge again with the facelift, which is expected to get a 25,000-50,000 rupee price hike.

You can see the revised Scorpio N hit Mahindra dealerships by mid-2026, which means we won’t be seeing the next-generation Scorpio or the Vision S anytime soon. The launch for the production model of the Vision S is said to be planned for 2027 or 2028.
