Upcoming JSW SUV – JSW Omoda E5

JSW has collaborated with the leading Chinese automaker, Chery, to bring its Chinese models to India. The first few SUVs to leave the JSW production floor will be the Jetour T2, Jaecoo J5, and the iCar V23. However, one of Chery’s SUVs caught our attention, the Omoda e5, and sources suggest that it could be another SUV to don the JSW badge.
Interestingly, the Omoda e5 is 4.43m long, making it even longer than the Creta electric. So, how is it a rival to Nexon? The E5 is priced around RMB 92,900-126,900, which translates to Rs 13 lakh and Rs 18 lakh. And now that JSW has promised that production will gradually become fully localised, we can expect similar pricing in India.
Furthermore, JSW is a relatively new brand, so it would have to offer a package that customers can’t refuse. It would need to stand out amongst the crowd and offer the most value for money possible to convince people to take the risk on a new Chinese vehicle. JSW did this move succesfully with the Windsor, and try the same with the Omoda.

Looks & Features!

The e5 looks striking with its cuts and creases across the body, sleek headlights, and sloping roofline. But the key highlight is its length, which means the practicality and cabin space are top-notch.
If the exteriors impressed you, take a look at the interiors. The minimalistic look is something that you only find on higher-end models. Not to mention, the cabin features many high-quality materials, giving it a premium feel. It also gets a long feature list that includes –
- An ADAS suite
- Leatherette seats
- 8-speaker Sony sound system
- 12.25-inch digital driver’s display
- 12.25-inch infotainment screen
- 6-airbags
- Wireless charging with cooling features
- Powered tailgate
- 360-degree camera
- Electrically adjustable ORVM

Expected Launch

JSW has a packed 2026 and 2027, which means the Omoda e5 is a long way off. We could see it by the end of 2027 or early 2028. Interestingly, the Nexon is also set to get a new generation soon, with the EV version offering a bigger battery pack. So JSW will have to price it aggressively and launch it accordingly to stand a chance in India’s ever-growing EV market.
