MG’s All-New SUV

MG has finally unveiled the Majestor, and this is not just an update to the existing Gloster; it’s the brand’s whole new flagship SUV. Being a flagship product, the brand has also introduced some unique off-road-oriented features. They call this the ‘M-Hub system’. How exactly is this different from the traditional 4X4 system?

Capability with Luxury

A differential is an important component of an off-road-oriented vehicle’s powertrain. This allows wheels to turn at different speeds, unlike a traditional axle. This is a crucial piece of equipment for off-road tackling. The Mercedes G-Wagon is also offered with the triple differential, which can cost three times as much as the Majestor. However, MG would manage to do so at an accessible price. MG Majestor also features three of them. This system reduces mechanical stress on the drivetrain and provides smoother power distribution than the traditional two-differential setup. Also, the triple differential layout provides better stability in the big SUV, making it safer on and off the road.

How Does It Work?

Majestor can drive in different configurations, including 2H, 4H, Auto, and 4L. You can manually select 2H, 4H, and Auto, but 4L is engaged by the car itself. There is no dedicated switch for the 4L; in off-road-specific terrain modes like mud, snow, and sand, it activates only at low speeds. In both 4L and 4H, all four wheels receive power; 4L is more effective at low-speed tackels, whereas 4H can be helpful at normal speeds. The 2L configuration powers only the rear wheels, making it fuel-efficient and powerful for city use. However, in the Auto mode, the car can make its own decision and switch between 2H and 4H. In addition, one can select from four terrain modes: normal, sand, mud, and rock.

Soon, we will be testing the Majestor and determining exactly how good this technology is.
