Scorpio N Safety – What’s The Problem?

The Scorpio N was tested by GNCAP in 2022, the same year it was launched. Here, the Mahindra Scorpio N secured 5-star safety for adult occupant protection with 29.25/34 points and 3 stars for child safety with 28.93/49 points.
But concerns were raised when the SUV was tested in Australia under the ANCAP norms. In this testing, this SUV received a 0-safety rating, with 17.67/40 points in adult occupant safety and 39.27/49 points in child safety. The score doesn’t sound so bad, but why a 0-star safety rating? Was there anything wrong with the testing equipment, or is one of the tests not trustworthy? Here is your answer –

Reasons Behind These Safety Ratings

Well, unfortunately, the Mahindra Scorpio N is yet to be tested under the Bharat NCAP guidelines. This could have helped us to better evaluate the safety and understand how safe this SUV is! But here are the main reasons the SUV has a poor score in ANCAP. The testing process isn’t standardised worldwide; therefore, the judging parameters of Global NCAP and ANCAP differ.
The major difference is the mandatory ADAS system in the ANCAP. In addition to this are the missing safety-assist features, such as rear-seat belt reminders, a driver monitoring system, and speed limit info. Not just on the safety features front, there’s something missing in the physical safety as well: the curtain air bag does not extend to the third row, and it also misses out on the centre air bag, which prevents front passengers from colliding with rear passengers during side impacts. Does that mean that the Global NCAP is lying and this is not a safe car?

Scorpio N Safety – Is It Safe?

Yes, the Scorpio N is safe, but to a certain extent. In both the GNCAP and ANCAP tests, the Scorpio has proven to have a stable passenger compartment, which means the cabin around you won’t collapse as easily. It also comes with safety features such as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), 6 airbags, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. But compared to the competition, it misses out on active safety features like ADAS that can help avoid collisions in the first place.
