Let us be fair: Ford was to make a major announcement last year for India to come back or start Indian operations. Everyone even got into mentioning that Ford Endeavour and a lot more products will come back to India.
So What Happened?
The initial idea was to start manufacturing engines and even assembling vehicles in India for Indian car buyers. No Ecosport, Figo or Aspire – just their premium range of SUVs, pick up trucks and some Electric options. Most of them would be in the price range of Rs 40 lakhs to about Rs 80 lakhs.
However, something hit the American companies that made most of them hold off on their future plans. The new US tariffs apply to most countries worldwide. With this happening, Ford also diverted funds and delayed some of its investment plans.

Ford Coming Back? – What To Expect?
Ford will come back to India – that has to happen. However, the first step will still be to get the engine assembly and some localisation to export it to other Ford plants across the world. This is where the company should restart its India journey once again. However, if we put the current tariff situation in place, Ford’s launch of its cars in India looks tough. Not for the next 1-2 years seems to be a reality.
So, yes, if you love Ford and are based in India, we do not have very good news for you. At the moment, Endeavour might not be coming in to challenge the Toyota Fortuner anytime soon. This is because Ford will be busy fighting global battles to win or gain more market share in other car markets.
