New-Gen Tata Nexon Coming Soon?

That’s right! The Tata Nexon is one of India’s favourite SUVs, and has only been growing in stature ever since its launch. And even though the SUV has been enjoying significant success, we believe that Tata might be working on introducing a new-generation of the Nexon. Tata Motors is expected to unveil its next-generation Nexon sometime in the next 6 to 10 months. This is one of India’s most beloved compact SUVs, and the current-generation Nexon has had a phenomenal run. It single-handedly redefined what Indians expect from a sub-4-metre SUV in terms of safety, features, and value. But let’s be honest: the current-gen Nexon has started feeling dated compared to its rivals. Even Tata knows this, and the new-gen Nexon is their answer to it all.

All-New Platform?

Here’s where it gets really interesting. The current Nexon is based on the X1 platform, the same as the Tata Indica launched in 1998. So, Tata may want to move on to a more modern platform. It is likely to share its platform with the Tata Sierra, which is itself one of the most anticipated SUV relaunches in recent years. A new platform means better ride quality, sharper handling dynamics, improved NVH levels, and greater structural rigidity. The Sierra platform is modern, more spacious, and built to support multiple powertrains, including electric and Hybrid. which brings us to the next big point.

Powertrain – New Tata Nexon

The new-gen Nexon is expected to be offered across all five fuel options: petrol, diesel, CNG, electric, and potentially hybrid. That is not something many manufacturers can pull off in a single model. The petrol and diesel variants will carry over refined versions of the current Nexon; the CNG variant will continue targeting the high-mileage, cost-conscious buyer, and the electric variant will build on the Nexon EV’s already strong legacy.

Then there is the most exciting possibility, a hybrid powertrain. The Sierra platform that the new Nexon is expected to share is also engineered to accommodate hybrid technology, meaning a hybrid variant could slot in. If Tata confirms this, the new Nexon would become one of the most versatile SUVs ever offered in India at this price point.

Interior

One of the most exciting bits from our conversations is that the new Nexon’s interior is expected to borrow its design from the Tata Sierra. And if you’ve seen the Sierra’s cabin, you’ll know that’s a very good thing. We are expecting a more premium dashboard layout, larger touchscreen and appealing instrument cluster, an overall step up in perceived quality that the current Nexon’s cabin, for all its practicality.
